Ponch Posted September 4, 2009 #276 Posted September 4, 2009 Looks pretty cool!! Bet you're gonna get a lot more functionality out of those than the cassette. But, being the pilot, I would have probably put in a turn and bank indicator! I like it. I think the colors look very good. But .... Chrome is my favorite color.
jlh3rd Posted September 4, 2009 Author #277 Posted September 4, 2009 ponch what is your price for your gauge package
gunboat Posted September 4, 2009 #278 Posted September 4, 2009 hi folks i am a lucky man, ponch is coming to my house in the am to help me install one of his gauge sets. i had taken out the casset player a few months ago, and installed a aluminum plate with led battery moniter on it. his set will look so much better. anybody in the area is welcome to stop by. don c.
Ponch Posted September 4, 2009 #279 Posted September 4, 2009 "what is your price for your gauge package?" I have orders for all that I have made so far. None left. Silvester got the last one. I haven't decided on a price yet. I will make some more after we get back from Cody, probably October. By then I will have a price set. I plan to offer the sets in polished Aluminum and primed steel. If I can get some powder coating equipment, I may offer them in powder coated colors, especially black . I had some plates powdercoated locally, man was that awful. All orders will include mounting brackets. I can also offer kits with the necessary adapters (oil fitting drilled & tapped, water fitting re-threaded and the 90° ell for the oil fitting). If needed, I will supply the gauges as well. Ponch
Sylvester Posted September 4, 2009 #280 Posted September 4, 2009 Yep, thousands of 2nd gen Ventures being turned down for warranty work because they have been modified. I have begun the process to do the install but my 02 has been out of warranty for some time now, so I have nothing to worry about. All kidding aside, this is a remarkable change for the Venture.
Little Bob Posted September 4, 2009 #281 Posted September 4, 2009 Ponch, Great job. When you have a price for everything let me know. I will take one. Now just need someone to help put it in. Not the most inclined if you know what i mean. Great job again

Cougar Posted September 7, 2009 #283 Posted September 7, 2009 OK Ponch, head over to IOWA now please!
Freebird Posted September 7, 2009 #284 Posted September 7, 2009 Well, I liked Ponch's faceplate so much that I decided to redo my gauges. I also replaced the Sunpro gauges with the Equus 8100 ones that Ponch had posted a link to. They cost about $10.00 more than the Sunpro but the faceplates of the gauges are almost the exact same color as the beige on our dashes. I really like them.

SilvrT Posted October 2, 2009 #293 Posted October 2, 2009 Thanks wasn’t that hard once a figured out what a wanted Tried putting the lighter in several places until the light went on. If and when I quit smoking Ill modify it for switches Used cardboard as a template Welder was a tig Here's what I did for switches.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31030&highlight=harley+switch
Seaking Posted October 3, 2009 #294 Posted October 3, 2009 Here's what I did for switches.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31030&highlight=harley+switch They are starting the garage build next monday, hope to have it completed before end of Oct.. hot tub installation soon afterwards.. (for medicinal purposes of course).. There are 2,001 projects a person can get into over the cold damp miserable non-riding winter in a nice heated garage.. where his RSV sits up on stands, waiting for work to be done to it.. Hmm wonder if the wife will mind me spending money on a large treadmill and huge fan for me to put the bike up on to simulate bike riding during the winter months? Go figure, mount my helmet cams up now and do a bunch of rides and then put it up on monitors in front of me while riding on the treadmill.. Hmmm how's THAT for the winter project of all times eh?
jarrejx Posted October 16, 2009 #295 Posted October 16, 2009 Ponch, I'm ready to ditch the cassette player, too, however, I want to use the Autometer gauges that Freebird introduced us to. I was hesitant at first because their 2 1/16" size would require extensive modification to the dash to fit three (3) gauges. Then I saw your pic of the ammeter next to the right speaker. I'm thinking that I can install two gauges (water temp & oil pressure) in the space now occupied by the cassette player and a voltmeter or ammeter next to the right speaker. Perhaps, even install a separate fuel gauge next to the left speaker (for the sake of symmetry). Would that be possible? How difficult was it to install your ammeter? I even found a second set of Autometer gauges called Golden Oldies that combines the antique beige w/ gold trim and would go well with the color scheme and trim on MyPalomino. I'm thinking if I put some of Cougar's fine efforts with yours, I could give the bike's dash an even more unique look without appearing like obvious add-ons. The Autometer gauges are more pricey than some of the others discussed but I think the finished product could be well worth it. I would like to purchase the other pieces and materials in your kit, including all the adapters and connections. I believe these gauges are electrical. So I await your posting on the cost of your kit. Here are the Autometer gauges I found:
Ponch Posted October 16, 2009 #296 Posted October 16, 2009 I could do that. The plastic at the bottom of the casstte player opening has to be cut anyway, so I think you could cut it deep (low) enough for a 2 1/16" gauge. Let me experiment and I'll get back with you. I have an install to do tomorrow. I'll look at the available space.
Ponch Posted October 21, 2009 #297 Posted October 21, 2009 ... I want to use the Autometer gauges....I was hesitant at first because their 2 1/16" size would require extensive modification to the dash ....I'm thinking that I can install two gauges (water temp & oil pressure) in the space.... I don't think this is a problem. If someone wants to buy a 2 1/16" gauge (2 gauges) set and send them to me, I'll make up a plate and mounting brackets and send them a set for free. (I'll send your gauges back to you). If it doesn't work out, I'll buy the gauges from you. Mailing address is: David Warren PO Box 628 Tomball, TX 77377-0628 Please post here so that others will know that I have the gauges in route. I don't need forty sets of gauges sent to me and I'll only do the first one for free. Please allow time for me to make the plate and brackets, test fit them and work out the details.
Ponch Posted October 24, 2009 #298 Posted October 24, 2009 jarrejx is sending a set of sample gauges for a 2 1/16" - 2 gauge prototype..
jeeper0202 Posted April 18, 2011 #299 Posted April 18, 2011 been working on this for a couple of weeks..........i added gauges where the cassette was...still kept the mp3 jack...........just did a test run....wadda ya think....... how do you hook it all up ..know how to do the amp meter but how about the oil and temp meter ...
