The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these. Just think of the impact on existing technology: A. no more air valves... B. no more air compressors at gas stations... C. no more repair kits... D no more flats... These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

AmnChode Posted February 27, 2009 #5 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) Looks like they are attached to an e-mail from the address link : http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f6024%5fAIUIw0MAAMW1SadQyAGKWWBij4Q&pid=3&fid=Inbox&inline=1 Would probably need to right-click and save the pics to your machine and then attach them to the forum post... BUT.... after googling the subject, I think this is what you were talking about (called the Tweel): http://www.shadetreemechanic.com/michelin_new_tire_design.htm & http://www.gizmag.com/go/3603/ also, a wikipedia link on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tweel Edited February 27, 2009 by AmnChode
BuddyRich Posted February 27, 2009 #6 Posted February 27, 2009 Wonder how mud is gonna affect the balance after some builds up in spots or will it break free as the tire flexes .
M61A1MECH Posted February 27, 2009 #7 Posted February 27, 2009 Do you think they tested these in snow and ice yet? Looks a little dodgey to me.
gibvel Posted February 27, 2009 #8 Posted February 27, 2009 I read that these will be a long time coming to the "Normal" market as they are having vibration problems at higher speeds. That and they are very noisy at higher speeds as well. They said they're more likely to be used on construction equipment where they don't have the high speed concerns and where the benefits of no flats are more beneficial.
AmnChode Posted February 27, 2009 #9 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) My concern was whether they got the vibration out of them (keep in mind, the press release was in 2005)....per the wikipedia page, w/ref to the cbs news bit, they would start to vibrate above 50mph.....would take all the fun out if you ask me... BTW...bunch of videos on them here... Edited February 27, 2009 by AmnChode
