Has anyone attempted to mount a stereo system on an OEM windshield? I looked at the sites for the fairings and batwings and it appears I would be out a couple thousand dollars just to get some tunes.:680: I was looking at the space above the instrument cluster and it got me to thinking...

I haven't tried it, but a gal I rode with once had a pair of midget powered speakers attached to her handlebars, connected to her iPod. She was riding a Hyosung GV250 cruiser bike -- really small -- and it worked fine. Powered by a cigarette lighter outlet. If you just want tunes, that could work.

That could work, I know the quality of small speakers has got better over the past few years. Possibly a marine speaker for weatherproofing??? Does anyone have any suggestions on some quality speakers that would be small and look good too?

Before I got rid of my other bike before I bought the Venture, I spent about $125 for a batwing fairing from e-bay and about that much more for paint. I already had most of the brackets since I had the memphis shades windshield. I just had to add 2 more bars. You shouldn't be out 2k to get some tunes.

Also try something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/100W-Motorcycle-Speakers-Waterproof-Stereo-Amplifier-FM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem290294975381QQitemZ290294975381QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Just need your own device like mp3 player. Get a small handlebar bag to put the mp3 player inside to keep it way from the weather.

Only thing too is I don't think the amplifier is waterproof so you will have to find a hiding place for it too. You can always ask the seller. There are probably even smaller amplifiers out there that are just as powerful.

Based on the feedback percentage, might want to look at other sellers. Also says it is located in China. I have heard that sometimes they will get you for import fees. I am sure there are some US sellers.

Just do a search for waterproof speakers and see what comes up.

Expensive in comparison, but an option all the same:

Kuryakyn - The Sound of Chrome

*EDIT*

Yeah...looks like Kury wants to re-direct the link....I re-browsed to it and the link is the same. Might need to copy the link, open the site, select metric, and then re-paste it in the address window.

CruiserCustomizing has them listed, as well...for $330 too ;)

I put a stereo on my RSTD last fall. Ordered a cheaper set. It is a fm tuner with a 100 watt amp and speakers. The speakers are 3" i believe, and waterproof. The tuner isnt waterproof. ordered a handlebar mount for a cb radio. mounted right on top, used velcro along with the rubber strap that came with it. Added my xm radio on it as well, actually doesnt look too bad. Used an old auto dash mount for that. If i remember right I ordered the stereo from "gooddeals18.com" only paid about 80 bucks. Can hook up an ipod also if you want.

How about this?

Chrome Handlebar Mounted Speakers

On second thought, this could be the same as the ones noted above. I couldn't get that link to pull up for some reason. The ones I posted are through J&P Cycles, but they too are Kuryakyn.

I think those are from J&M if I am not mistaken. http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=16

Might be something on JC whitney too.

Here is another one, Honda part # 08A08-9H1-000

http://www.powersportspro.com/pages/catalogs/viewproductdetailbysku/U2t1U3RhcnRzOmhvbmRh/all/29372/honda-digital-audio-system.aspx

They have a mounting kit too for something like another $100. I haven't really heard any responses as to how good this unit is. Considering the cost and the other cheaper options out there, I don't think a whole lot of these have been sold. I couldn't find any on e-bay either. Just throwing it out there too.

You might consider powered speakers that mount to the handle bars, these systems have a small amplifier that can be hidden under the seat. Motorcycle Tunes http://www.motorcycletunes.com/ has a pair with a 500 watt amplifier loud enough so you could hear the tunes at 70 mph and all for $159.00. See the link of the speakers installed on a RS Tour Deluxe http://motorcycletunes.com/Customer-Bikes.htm. You can hear them at this you tube site: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rsI_G0G44U&feature=related]YouTube - motorcycle stereo How to video[/ame]

This set up lets you add a radio, a mp3, a GPS, XM radio any device that accepts a 3.5 mm plug.

And if you don't like these speakers then try this site where you can spend over $ 500.00

I just installed the Kuryakyn sound of chrome 2 weeks ago. It's nice having the tunes.

I had it installed so that there's a connection plug for the ipod in the saddlebag and another plug under the speedometer.

Although there's not a lot of base, I'm happy with the system and can hear it at 70mph.

It has a built in amp so no hunting where to put the amp.
