GG54172 Posted February 25, 2009 #2 Posted February 25, 2009 I just moved from Ontario to Michigan...does anyone have advice for the cheapest motorcycle insurance in Michigan? Ken in Kalamazoo I get an GMI alumni discount from Liberty Mutual. However, I would guess progressive, they seemed to have the best rates before I moved to Iowa. Shop around. I used to spend one friday morning annually shopping for all of my insurance needs. Michigan has some high insurance rates. I would call all of the major insurance companies and one or two independant agents. Takes three or four hours, but you can save several thousand dollars a year.
timgray Posted February 25, 2009 #3 Posted February 25, 2009 Don't believe the rates that progressive quotes you from the "other companies". I went to a local state farm guy, talked to him face to face and he quoted me 30% less than Progressive could do. This is even more effective if you have a very clean driving record.
KarlS Posted February 25, 2009 #4 Posted February 25, 2009 I had Progressive on my van and my rates almost doubled for no reason. No claims, no tickets. didn't move. Bad thing was I had rates taken out of my bank account by progressive, they took out double and sent a letter on the increase the day AFTER they took the funds out of the bank. Went to a local independent agency and paying less then progressive charged in the first place.
MiCarl Posted February 25, 2009 #5 Posted February 25, 2009 Michigan is high, but from what I've read it's cheap compared to Ontario. As I posted in another thread I did better with Allstate than I did with Progressive.
Carbon_One Posted February 25, 2009 #6 Posted February 25, 2009 I have Progressive and when I first shopped for bike insurance I checked their web site. Seemed high so went to one of the independant insurance dealers. Much cheaper going that way. No idea why either as I was quoted at both places for exact same amounts of coverage. Allstate now covers mc's too but don't know what their rates are. I have Allstate on both my cars and house. But they won't cover a trike even thou Michigan considers it still a motorcycle. Larry
