Richb Posted February 24, 2009 #1 Posted February 24, 2009 If anyone out there is using "Al's Cooler Rack"...(see link below) http://www.alsmotorcycleaccessories.com/new_cooler_rack.html with their 2nd gen RSV, can you please tell me the specific trailer hitch you're using with it? I am really interested in getting one, but I am unclear on which hitch to get. Thanks for any help. I appreciate it. Rich
friesman Posted February 24, 2009 #2 Posted February 24, 2009 I was eyeing up the Rivco rack they make 2 sizes and the have an adpater that means you can pull 2 pins and pull it off your bike instead of having to unbolt it off your hitch. I beleive Sleeperhawk has a rack, he has told me he likes it. Here is the one I am ordering http://www.rivcoproducts.com/products/home.php?cat=397 Brian
RoadKill Posted February 24, 2009 #3 Posted February 24, 2009 With Als you can either bolt it on or have it made with a stinger for the hitch receiver. I am planning on getting one soon to have when I don't use the trailer

I am planning on getting one soon to have when I don't use the trailer This is where I need help. Which trailer hitch reciever will accomodate Al's Cooler rack"? I know nothing about hitchs, except that I have to put one on my bike, in order to use the cooler rack. Te question remains...which specific hitch will accomodate my 2004 RSV and Al's cooler? Thanks!!
dr_bar Posted February 24, 2009 #5 Posted February 24, 2009 It appears that it will fit any hitch, as it bolts on where the ball is usually mounted. If you get a spare receiver bar then you could bolt it to that and slip it into a receiver hitch if so desired.
bdyohecomcast.net Posted February 24, 2009 #6 Posted February 24, 2009 after reading the info on there web page it will bolt onto where the ball would bolt.so any bolt on hitch (reciever tech term )for the venture would work then you have to buy your hitch ball Bill
yankeereb Posted February 24, 2009 #7 Posted February 24, 2009 If you need a receiver hitch for your RVS try this one from Venturedad. http://www.venturedad.com/RSV%20hitch.htm I plan to get one for my 08 RSV,
Richb Posted February 24, 2009 Author #8 Posted February 24, 2009 If you need a receiver hitch for your RVS try this one from Venturedad. http://www.venturedad.com/RSV%20hitch.htm I plan to get one for my 08 RSV, I looked at venturedad's hitch as well, and asked him if Al's cooler rack would fit. Here is Venturedad's reply... "The cooler rack I saw won't work but they may sell one that does? The one you are looking for will have an 1-1/4" square bar sticking out towards the bike that sticks into the reciever and is held in place with a 1/2" pin." This is why I am asking anyone who is using Al's cooler rack for the specific model of hitch they are using. I love the apparent simple install of venturedad's hitch, but according to him it won't work with Al's cooler rack. In general (if I understand correctly) the hitch and the rack have to have accomodating male / female diameters to fit. Correct? Or is this where I am confused?
Squidley Posted February 24, 2009 #9 Posted February 24, 2009 FWIW I'm not sure that I like the setup of that rack. It also only has 1 point of contact and that would be where the ball is bolted as you would have to remove it to use the rack. Many folks use the Reece style hitch like the one that Venturedad makes, I have had one of them and liked it very well. Kromeworks makes a hitch for the Venture that has a plate with the ball installed on it. I made one out of Aluminum and pinned it into my Reece hitch and it worked well. I thought that there was another rack made with that setup that could be bought. I'll see if I can dig it up and hopefully someone will have a link to it.
Sleeperhawk Posted February 24, 2009 #10 Posted February 24, 2009 I have the rack and use VenturingDad' hitch. The rack has a stinger you slip into the hitch. I do not use the Ball. I also had him add a sheet of metal so I could mount lights to the rack. Here is a thread I started some time ago. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27465
friesman Posted February 25, 2009 #11 Posted February 25, 2009 If any one is looking for the rivco rack its cheaper here http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/105_Rivco_Products/2055_Goldwing_Receiver_Cooler_Rack_11x16/?goto=%2Fpgroup_list%2Fgl1800%2F105_Rivco_Products%2Fmfg%2F I like the rivco better as its polished aluminum and has the quick detach part that also hold the rack straight on a flat hitchplate, but i like the shiny stuff!!! Squidly, if you happen to find that other rack info. please post it or PM me. Sleeperhawk, I really like your set up. Looks Great. Is it possible to get a closeup photo of the lights and the hitch? I mounted a rubbermaid box to it for extra storage. I rewired it to match the bike. I put break lights on each side. I used a receiver hitch. Al built it to match my measurements. Here are a couple of picture of the rake on the bike.

I know nothing about hitchs, except that I have to put one on my bike, in order to use the cooler rack. Te question remains...which specific hitch will accomodate my 2004 RSV and Al's cooler? Thanks!! I just installed a Venturedad hitch. Actually any non-vertical receiver hitch will work. When you order Al's rack there is a form you have to fill out if you want it mounted with a stinger. Then you do some measurements, he makes it that way, and sends it to you. Sleeperhawk Posted February 26, 2009 #16 Posted February 26, 2009 Here are pics of the rack close up and with measurements for the stinger and VentureDad hitch only.
