hillrider Posted February 23, 2009 #1 Posted February 23, 2009 Just saw an ad for the handlebar mounted unit. The SO rides a wee strom and would occasionally like to tell me when I missed a turn. Has anyone got any experience with these units. Are they any good? I know they're pricey, but if it's any good, it looks like it would fit the bill. (Able to tell me what to do and listen to her tunes)
OutKast Posted February 23, 2009 #2 Posted February 23, 2009 Have the unit on my wifes Intruder. Works well, when she uses the right volume button. can plug an MP3 right in. She plugs her "voice ready" mp3 capable cell phone in. She can listen to tunes, and when the phone rings is says to her "call from so-and-so". She can then decide wether to pull over now and call them back, or wait till later. Any kind of cell phone integrator adds big bucks though. Check around for other providers. I think "wing stuff". They sell packaged deals alot cheaper than directly from J&M. Any of the portable CB kits cost almost as much, have wires everywhere, and lack the performace. MAKE SURE YOU TUNE THE ANTENA. Check the tech section for details.
Freebird Posted February 23, 2009 #3 Posted February 23, 2009 You should also check with http://www.sierra-mc.com They sell J&M and are pretty much always cheaper than buying direct from J&M. They are great to deal with also.

donaldj2242 Posted February 24, 2009 #5 Posted February 24, 2009 Works great on my wifes Honda VTX 1300

Before you decide to plunk down on that at least consider the GMRS/FRS radios, FM transmission means clear and clean audio, they are cheap now and range is near what a portable CB will be. Unless there is a particular drive for the CB
hillrider Posted February 25, 2009 Author #7 Posted February 25, 2009 Thanks guys. At the mention of Sierra, the owner suddenly asked me to verify that I was a public servant (I did do fire service in the 80's) and offered a 10% discount. Not as good as Sierra, but faster and local. Several of the guys have denied discounts. Helps to know whats out there. Thanks
hillrider Posted February 25, 2009 Author #8 Posted February 25, 2009 Oh yea, I looked at the FRS, and it would work for her bike. But mines already got the GPS, the XM, and coffee holder. Handle bar space is limited
