Help with Passing Lights

I need some help. When I got my previously owned Venture, the passing lights were already installed and were setup to be on all time. Here is the problem: they quit working and I do not know how to fix them. Electrical is not my strong point!

• Do they have a separate fuse (if so I could not find one)

• What are they wire to?

• Do I have to take the front cowl apart?

Well some of those questions are kinda hard question to answer...

 

Best I remember the Yamaha instructions for the passing light install say connect them to the head light wiring hi beam or low beam through a switch to turn them off... Maybe that switch is mounted somewhere and it is off or went bad.

Some folks throw the instructions in the trash like me...and I run a new fused circuit from a new aux fuse panel mounted under the seat and ran it to a relay controlled by a switch. I guess what I am saying here is there is many many ways to connect the lights to power... Some folks may or may not them on a seperate fuse.

You will probably have to just look and see.

Yes- your fuse is probably behind the fairing..

 

Also , take a look were the 12Volt Plug is down

to the bottom left as your sitting on the bike.

(on the inner faring)

 

The instructions show to put the on/off switch

next to the aux 12 V receptacle. maybe you hit

that push switch somehow. now right behind that

switch in the fairing will most likely be your fuse

for the lights. Looking at the bike from the front

your fuse will be behind the right side of the fairing.

 

From the looks of your picture

you have the same light as I do on my 2KMM

You may be better off re-wiring the power instead of chasing down problems in a possible poor installation. Using a relay and a separate fused wired to the battery is highly recommended. This is how I wired mine 4 or 5 years ago and have never had a problem. I used the on at all times option from the Yamaha installation instructions and mounted the led switch next to the DC outlet on the fairing.

Thanks for everyone’s help. I took the fairing apart to replace the fuse that was connected to the switch. Cost me $1.00 for the fuse and a couple hours of time, but now I know how to get the fairing apart so the next time will be a lot faster. I could not of done it without you-all.
