Group diaphragm purchase

There is a distributor here where I live in Kitchener and I am looking into what price we could get for diaphragm sets if we buy a large quantity. I realize it's hard to say yes when you don't know what the price is, and I'm not looking for a definite hold-you-to-it commitment but Don has started a poll in the 1st Gen Tech Talk section. Could anyone interested please respond to the poll so we can get some idea of how much interest there might be, so I can talk some numbers with these guys.

If there isn't enough interest, obvious I won't bother but if there is I will pursue this.

When you talk to the folks over there, ask for Martin Mattes. He is the gentleman that my contact in Japan had been working with. Martin sent me an e-mail today and I indicated that someone local would be contacting him.

Well, the gentleman in Kitchener is A-1 in my book. He has sent several e-mails to me this evening concerning the size discrepancy. Heck, he has offered to send me a diaphragm to measure for myself!! I suggested that he and ReinyRooster do the measuring. If they can't agree then I would buy 4 of them then measure and install them.

He measured the diaphragms at 30mm inside. If this is correct, we have a good source for the diaphragms. And, if you check the website, they have other carb parts that we might need. I repeat, Sirius Consolidated, Inc. is a class act. Martin has went way above and beyond to make sure things will be right.

I appreciate the responses here but PLEASE use the poll as it will record accurate numbers for us. Thanks

I received confirmation from Mr. Sakae and Yoshi. They sent me pictures of an SD-1 diaphragm fitted to a V-Max carburetor. Assembly number 1FK-14901-01 . Also heard from Gereon at the German facility. He is fitting the SD-1 to the Venture carburetors. Venture from 1983-1993 is a go. Now, if Lutz (Squeeze) can verify the years on the V-max we are set for supplies in the USA, Canada, and Europe.

As to the dimension difference, I guess something gets lost in translation:confused24:

Go get-em Reiny!!!

I can confirm the Years on the Maxxes. The very early 85 has had 34mm Carbs just as the 1Gen and those Maxxes are very seldom, but other than this they're all the same. The Diaphragm will even fit the earlier's fine, it's just a slight Difference in the Lifter Hole Boring which could be corrected in no Time. But as we only replace the Diaphragm istself, that's a no-brainer.

I've checked Gereon's Website two Days ago. He doesn't list those "SD-1 Diaphragm only" anymore, he had them listed last Year, so it thought there could have been a Problem and delisted them.

I know two Guys from the german Vmax Site which mounted the Diaphragm only. No negative Reports up to this Day. I was just a bit hesitating because of my Doubts on the long Term Durability.

I put in for 3 sets. If this works well, I will front for 3 sets (12 diaphragms) beyond my own stock and hold them for folks in the area that might need them.

Just 1 wife and a daughter. Wife doesn't need them. I will think about triple-stacking for the daughter!!!

Squeeze-

I think the reliability should be good. I was able to check the chemical composition of the rubber material. It is a very stable and fuel resistive compound. Not a normal butyl rubber or a stiff viton. It is a flouro compound.

Earl reported he had a Set in his Virago at for at least five Years. But this was last Week or so. If they hold up 5 Years or more, would be good enough for me. :thumbsup2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2:

btw ...

Why stacking them up

I thought we would give this thread abit of time - say until the end of February to give everyone a chance to read this thread and respond. If you know anyone that might be needed some carb diaphragms, get them to respond to the poll in the 1st Ge. Tech section before the end of the month.
