Sailor Posted February 17, 2009 #2 Posted February 17, 2009 Photographs, receipts for any work or custom accessories and affidavits from those who know the bike. Ads for similar bikes in similar condition. Good luck.
GeorgeS Posted February 17, 2009 #3 Posted February 17, 2009 My Zip Code, Kelly shows, $2075 Trade in. Seattle area
cecdoo Posted February 17, 2009 #4 Posted February 17, 2009 I think you need to find for sale adds for bikes that are the same as yours. Find as many as you can, you could show them to your adjuster to prove what it would cost you to replace your bike. That silver is a "rare" color, of course try to find as many high priced bikes as you can. Good Luck, Craig

kbert777 Posted February 17, 2009 #6 Posted February 17, 2009 I got a settlement of around $3750 for repairs to my '89 when a drunk driver went through the garage door. By then the bike had around $70k miles on it and it did not total, I retained clear title. Trick was to show the adjuster the receipts the original owner had collected since new, I am the second owner, for over $12000 in maintenance, repair and upgrades since new, a folder about 4" thick. The insurance company was American Family, they just wrote a check and ask me to call them if I would have any trouble getting the bike repaired for the money. Klaus
BradT Posted February 17, 2009 #7 Posted February 17, 2009 All the best luck, but you will have to do your homework. Finds ones for sale close to your area and do the comparisons on each one. Just went through this with a car, but a little work helped me get a few bucks more. Brad
Venturous Randy Posted February 17, 2009 #8 Posted February 17, 2009 Thom, when State Farm settled with me on the truck knocking my bike over and it is an 83 with 115,000 miles on it, I received $3,164 and kept the bike. I don't know if I can find the paperwork where I settled, but I will try. RandyA
KarlS Posted February 17, 2009 #9 Posted February 17, 2009 I don't know if it will help but there is a 86 on cycletrader.com for sale for $3999.00. I have no clue how to post it here but thought I'd pass it on.

Good Luck, Craig Thom, This is exactly what I did with my '99, took several ads for '99's and what market value was. Dont let them off the hook, we'll find you some bikes that you can say "here it is"

Thom:bang head::bang head::bang head: Same thing happened to me and I went to the internet and found a bunch of examples where my year make and model bike was for sale and sold for more than they were offereing. They eventually paid me around $3,500 with no salvage title. I think they determining factor was that the insured was drunk when he hit my parked bike. Stand your ground and demand that they pay it's worth or replace it with one in the same condition as yours.
