Yes,

My 84 XVZ has one.

I'd say that it is an add-on.

My 86 had one on the handlebars. Looked waaaaaaaaaaaay out of place.

I just mounted it on the bar in front of the right bag. Out of the way and will do what I need it to do. (charge my cell phone, or light a swisher sweet. :)

I actually quit smoking 20 years ago, but have always wanted a swisher sweet.

I put one in that spot years ago and I hooked it directly to the battery with an in-line fuse so yes, mine had power all the time.

Yeah, What thom440 said. That is originally where the headset cord exited. Had a rubber grommet that the cord when through stuck in that hole. Definitely an after market item.

Thanks guys, My battery went low and i was testing it with a lighter plud volt meter, that when i noticed it didnt go off with the key. I was wondering if it may have a constant draw cause a drain to be concerned about.

Unless it's a modern one with a small light... it's just another power outlet, no draw if nothing is plugged in. But I still don't like things that are "always hot" and I even unplug one connector of the top trunk "vanity" light... that stupid switch can fail and runs your battery right down without you ever seeing it. And it's rather rare that I need it to check my makeup from the trunk.

I put one on mine and wired it directly across the battery so that I can plug in a battery tender during the winter storage months... Elsewise it's there for the sake of bveing there. I even threw out the cigarette lighter part and put a rubber plug in it to keep it waterproof...
