hale374 Posted February 13, 2009 #1 Posted February 13, 2009 Well I wrecked the RSV yesterday. Truck pulled out in front of me and I had to drop it. Missed the truck, but he drove off anyway. Plenty of witnesses though, but none got a license plate. It tore up the whole right side of the bike. Me, I went over the handle bars and landed on the right side of my helmet and my right shoulder. Stayed alert through the whole thing. I ended up breaking my scapula (shoulder blade) and my number 4 rib. In the process of doing this, it caused me to have a partial collapse of my right lung. Spent the night in the hospital. My lung inflated on its own without surgery, thank goodness and the rest will just take time to heal. Went and checked out the bike today. She fired up, but didn't sound good. It would idle and I could give it some gas, but it sounded a little sick. Just waiting to see what the insurance says about it before making any decisions. Anyway, stay safe and be alert out there.

cecdoo Posted February 14, 2009 #5 Posted February 14, 2009 Really sorry to hear about your crash, glad you could walk away from it. Hopefully you will heal up quick and the Ins. will take care of you. Good luck, Craig
pegscraper Posted February 14, 2009 #6 Posted February 14, 2009 Wow, sorry to hear it. I've broken ribs more times than I can remember anymore. Never had a collapsed lung though. Rest up and take care of yourself. Not a good way to start out the year.
Jethroish Posted February 14, 2009 #7 Posted February 14, 2009 Glad you are o.k. We all have to be wary of these idiots. The driver either never saw you or saw it all and decided to haul butt.
Sleeperhawk Posted February 14, 2009 #8 Posted February 14, 2009 With your connections, I would think the eye in the sky would have this guy pegged, Hopefully the insurance will come through and do you right. We are both very glad you were not hurt any worse.
skydoc_17 Posted February 14, 2009 #9 Posted February 14, 2009 Hey Chris, Both Jean and I were sorry to hear about your accident. We are both very greatful that you were not injured any worse than you were. Please remember that bikes can be repaired, and if it wasn't for you quick reaction time and speedy brake application you could be placing this post from a hospital bed! We are glad this is not the case! Get Well Soon, Earl and Jean
autopilot Posted February 14, 2009 #10 Posted February 14, 2009 I'm hatin it for you, man! I too am pleased you came through with no more damage to yourself than you did! Heal well and quickly. I hope things go as well with either repair or replacement of your bike. I especially hope they find and nail the truck driver for his involvement.
Guest Shep Posted February 14, 2009 #11 Posted February 14, 2009 I am so sorry man. Laid my 07 RSTD down about 5 weeks ago and I can that I "really feel your pain!" Just don't push it on recovery time and rest when you can :>) Shep
ibents Posted February 14, 2009 #12 Posted February 14, 2009 I would also like to add my wish for a speedy recovery Chris, like the the other posts have said, bikes can be soon repaired. Bodies take a little longer. Get well soon. Ian
BuddyRich Posted February 14, 2009 #13 Posted February 14, 2009 Well, Any landing you remember and can walk away from sooner or later is a good one. The bike will probably be a total. My 05 had just minor cosmetic damage and they wanted to total it. Geico figure if it was more than 7k damage it was cheaper for them to total it. So went to the dealer and had him just charge for some of the parts and not the labor. I put them on and that made a big difference. Good luck with the shoulder, rib and the bike
sarges46 Posted February 14, 2009 #14 Posted February 14, 2009 Thats tough...sorry to hear of the wreck but very glad to see you typing the information for us to read! Take it easy...you will heal up.
Riderduke Posted February 14, 2009 #15 Posted February 14, 2009 Hey Chris, If you need any help with anything let me know I'm right down the road. We hope you heal up quickly.
Eck Posted February 14, 2009 #16 Posted February 14, 2009 Really sorry to hear this, but very happy to hear you were able to walk away from it. Wish you well and hope the insurance folks take care of all your needs.
hale374 Posted February 14, 2009 Author #17 Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks for all the well wishes. State police was pretty pathetic in investigating this accident. Even with the detailed description and only 1 place they went, community college campus, they did nothing. Insurance is being ok so far. They took my sworn statement and said that my collision would cover it, but if the police report ruled it the other vehicles fault, my uninsured motorists coverage would cover it and if they could find out who was driving the truck, I wouldn't have to pay anything. Well I'm sure I'll probably be getting option 2 there, but I will be heading back to that campus this week to find that truck. And as Sleeperhawk said, with my connections I will know who and where this person lives in a matter of minutes. Looks like I'll be doing my own accident investigation.
chabicheka Posted February 14, 2009 #18 Posted February 14, 2009 sorry to hear. wish you a quick recovery. :sign **** happens:
Freebird Posted February 14, 2009 #19 Posted February 14, 2009 Well....I do hope that you find out who the creep is and that law enforcement handles it appropriately..the main thing though is that I am glad you are here to tell us about it.
1sttenor Posted February 14, 2009 #20 Posted February 14, 2009 Speaking for the police of the world...They will enjoy finding this guy and making sure he's brought to justice! Get well soon.
Crash Posted February 14, 2009 #21 Posted February 14, 2009 As said before, sure glad you didn't injure yourself worse. Hope the police can find that creep.
Gambit Posted February 14, 2009 #22 Posted February 14, 2009 Too bad it wasnt a motorcycle cop investigating the accident. They tend to take things like this a little more personaly and put greater effort into it. But they unfortunately are for traffic only. They dont really do investigations. Good luck though.
starcruiser Posted February 15, 2009 #23 Posted February 15, 2009 As the others have said, thank God you can walk away even though recovery will take time! Best wishes to you! Mark
bubblehead Posted February 15, 2009 #24 Posted February 15, 2009 glad you weren't injured to bad, bike can always be replaced but you can't.
Mariner Fan Posted February 15, 2009 #25 Posted February 15, 2009 Well that blows. Glad that you are o.k.
