Have you ever wondered where the motor support brace bolt (the one that hides behind the brake reservoir) goes when you drop it while reinstalling the brace? Note to self just remove the reservoir first it makes it easier. Anyway, that bolt ends up in the radiator fan housing. It is completely invisible to the naked eye. I spent at least a half hour or so looking for it yesterday. Finally I got the bright idea to stick my hand in to turn the fan blade. As soon as I started to turn the blade I could hear that sound of metal clanking as I turned the fan. The good news is after a couple of turns the bolt fell out the bottom onto the floor.

Super Bowl Sunday was spent successfully changing the spark plugs, air filters and radiator fluid thanks to all the step by step guidance provided here. The next session I plan to add the Gen Mar risers, change the gas filter and of course the oil. Come on Spring!!!!!

Thanks for the help, Dave

Which bike are you referring to?

Is it the the Venture Royal, the Royal Star Venture, or the Royal Star Tour Deluxe?

I am confused as this post does not sate what bike it is, and is posted in the Watering Hole section of the forum.

i just want some clarification to see if it might apply to my bike, a Royal Star Venture, so I can look out for this when I do have to remove a motor support brace bolt.

Thank you in advance.

Update:

I will have to assume that it does apply to my bike as I will also assume that you are referring to the Royal Star Venture as when I looked at your public profile it states:

Bike Year and Model

06 Royal Star Venture

Thanks for the GREAT tip.

On at least two ocassions I have dropped my keys on my 83 down past the tripple tree and ended up in the fan area. I believe on one ocassion I ended up taking the fan housing loose to get them out. It was also usually at a time when it was real inoppertune to do that.

Sorry about that. I should have said my bike is an 06 Royal Star Venture. I hope the post will help someone find their bolt quicker than I did by checking the fan first if you don't see the bolt on the floor. :080402gudl_prv:

Hmm, I can drop something right in front of my eyes and not see it. Hate glasses. Became blind when I started wearing them.

I know, let the jokes begin! I totally opened up that door!

I will look at my bike's fan housing tonight. It sounds like a bad place to drop anything into...

I think there's a key from the '83 in there.....somewhere... :)

Dropped a spark plug and I saw it on the fan housing. I also turned the blade then it disappeared.

Had to loosen the fan and swing it away to get it. Sure ticked me off, but then I had to laugh later, when I went for a ride.

Two weeks into a new job at a papermill I dropped a nut while doing maintenance on the top of the former section on the paper machine during a shutdown. It took 20 electricians, 10 instrument guys, and about 10 others over an hour to find it. Boy, was I popular for a while.:8:
