CrazyHorse Posted July 20, 2007 #2 Posted July 20, 2007 Different gearing but should work I think same motor.
Condor Posted July 20, 2007 #3 Posted July 20, 2007 Different gearing but should work I think same motor. The buy-it-now price is kinda steep, but if you can't wait...go for it. You're not gaining anything over a 1300 tranny from 86-93. I've seen them go for a lot less.....
Yammer Dan Posted July 20, 2007 #4 Posted July 20, 2007 If that is a early 85 it could have the weak tranny. I have the VIN # somewhere that the ones after it were suposed to be fixed but can't find it right now. Someone may have it but they were supposed to fix the problem during the 85 year. I think any of the transmissions from 83 to 93 were interchangable. And can be had for lot less or you could undercut gears on yours and fix it.
buddy Posted July 20, 2007 #5 Posted July 20, 2007 My 83 has the V-Max transmission works great for me.I lucked out on this one the first owner replaced it year before i bought it.runs just fine,But I'm like Yammer Dan I don't have the spec's on the transmission for when Yamaha up graded them. I agree with Condor,Kinda steep on this transmision but if you want a V-Max trans. go fo it. buddy

But once the tranny is out of the motor theere's no way of telling what year it came from. Personally I'd rather buy the whole motor and be assured that it's out of a 1300. Motors don't bring much more than what the guy it asking for just the tranny, and who's to tell it's actually out of a V-Max. I've seen Ebay sellers refer to parts from their 83-84 as being the same, or from, a V-Max and they weren't even around until 85.... Anyway I don't think there's a way to tell the difference between a 83 and a 93 tranny once the parts are out of the motor.... I think....
Squeeze Posted July 20, 2007 #7 Posted July 20, 2007 Hi, from what i expierenced with both Bikes, i wouldn't put a Vmax Tranny in a Venture. imho, the lower Gears are a bit too short for a Venture. Better Choice might be a Vmax rear End and the Venture Gears. Other than my Toughts, in that Ebay-Offer is the outgoing angled Gear missing. As those Kind of Gears are allways made to matched Pairs, i wouldn't use that Gear with another, unmatched Gear. If these Gears, dued to this unmatched fit, are going to block, you might need a Lot more Parts to fix the Bike. This could get dangerous. As i have read here, the Vmax/86 to 93 rear Ends might not fit to a 83 Model, maybe because of different Driveshafts, but this should specified from someone knows that for sure. Probably, the newer rear Ends need also the newer Driveshafts.
GigaWhiskey Posted July 20, 2007 #8 Posted July 20, 2007 I have not had mine out or seen any with my eyes but some of those teeth do not look too great (top right and middle right of big image). I think I see pits and broken tips of some of those teeth. Thar be rust in ther too.
Guest john castaldi Posted July 21, 2007 #9 Posted July 21, 2007 ok, i think i'll stay away from that one. Tell me more about these undercut gears?
pappyam Posted July 21, 2007 #10 Posted July 21, 2007 Dont know if this would help! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-89-YAMAHA-VENTURE-ROYALE-engine-MOTOR-RUNS-1300CC_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10066QQihZ013QQitemZ230154081029QQrdZ1
Guest john castaldi Posted July 21, 2007 #11 Posted July 21, 2007 I'm already watching that one. But it's 350 to ship it. so, a $200 motor quickly turns into a $500 motor.
Yammer Dan Posted July 21, 2007 #12 Posted July 21, 2007 Look in our Tech Library. Randya is the pro on this one. And a few other 1st Gen things. The two biggest problems with the Best of the Beasts (early 1st Gens) Randy has already solved. Frame and 2nd gear.
