well luckily it wasnt the head gasket...........but a rocker arm. Guy said he had never seen one do this...dont ask me what it did...dale could explain

 

still gonne be a high bill........and the battery keeps needing jumped now.....so replace that too

 

a grand will prolly do it..........funny thing is we only owe a grand on it.....:crying:

 

 

Should have it back by the end of the week......will be nice to have my transportation back.....!!!:D

That's typical for car repairs. I just had 4 rubber bushings replaced on my wife's car. 4 little rubber bushings that cost less than $35.00 each.

 

The bill came to $690.00 for the 4 hours labor and front end alignment. The manager did not think it was funny when I asked, "did you feed the guys lobster for lunch on my bill as well?"

You had said that the head gaskets were replaced once already..They had to take the rocker arms off to do that job.

How many miles ago??? Maybe some warranty available??????

I got a good one going on now. My old Buick was getting a shimmy in the front end. jacked it up and wheel bearins are worn. drove it couple more months, started getting little worse so I jacked it up and replaced both wheel bearings. Tie Rods and Ball Joints seemed Ok. New tires and just balanced. Still got Shimmey. Where to look??

My old Buick was getting a shimmy in the front end. jacked it up and wheel bearins are worn. drove it couple more months, started getting little worse so I jacked it up and replaced both wheel bearings. Tie Rods and Ball Joints seemed Ok. New tires and just balanced. Still got Shimmey. Where to look??

 

Tire tread seperation or maybe because you had the bearing shimmy happening,it caused a wheel weight to come off...:think:

Rotate the tires front to rear and test drive.It might help narrow it down....

did the tech check the front disk brake roters to see if thy are warped /out of round? at what speed does the shimmy start? is it worse when you use the brakes? if the front end is set up properly you should be able to let go of the steering wheel and the car/truck should track stright for a little while. i think as some else suggested have all tires balanced & rotated and try that.

cindy glad you got your van fixed. the little things can drive you nuts.

Roters are less than year old and don't pulse when you hit brakes. You can turn loose of wheel and it tracks straight. Starts at about 35 and gets worse with speed. Tires are new and just balanced. Wheel weight would stop after getting about 65 or 70 wouldn't it? This don't, if anything it is worse. Weather makes it hard to deal with.

Incorrect toe-in can cause that. Also, if it is front wheel drive, worn CV joints can cause a shimmy.

Missing weight may or may not stop at 65-70...

Do you have any snow or ice packed on the inside of the rim????????

This would cause a problem too........

When you did the bearings,did you replace the races as well ??????

I'm assuming you have the bearings adjusted correctly......

Brand new tires can have a ply separation...Try the easy stuff first.

Rotate the tires front to back.That will also make it easier to see any ice build up...

Or jack it up,chock the wheels and let the car idle.Then look for any tread wobble...

Could be a bent wheel or broken steel belt inside a tire. Try rotating the tires and see what happens.-Jack

Ran into bad rockers on the Camaro I bought. The idiot (I use that term VERY loosley)ran the nuts on the rockers all the way down, ruined the pushrods, lifters and rockers. Put in new, adjusted lash correctly, motors been fine ever since!

A few years ago I was headed out of state to see friends for a few days. I had the car serviced and had new tire mounted and balanced before I left. After the trip down, about 400 miles, the steering started to shimmey. On the trip back home it rapidly got worse until about 50 miles from home it got so bad I pulled into a service area and jacked up the front end to see if I was losing a tie rod or something. Everything looked ok but on a whim I went ahead and put my spare on the front right. No difference. It was scaring my daughter so bad I swapped the spare to the left and put the right side tire back on.

 

The last 50 miles were smooth as silk. When I took the tire back to the dealer that next morning he laughed and said he'd never seen one go bad "that" fast. After a short conversation over the discussion of the word "that" I drove home on a new full set of tires of a different brand. No charge.

 

Yeppers, seperation within the first 700 miles at highway speeds. So much for quality control.

Cindy it is the same amount of work to get to the rockers arms as it was to replace the intake gasket. Same parts as well. Glad your getting your van back.

 

Dan they probably did remove the rods by loosening the rockers to change the gasket but there is a tool or at least you can make one that compreses the spring enough to pull the rods. Sure speeds up the job.
