Dave77459 Posted January 22, 2009 #1 Posted January 22, 2009 My friend put a leather bottle holder / pocket on the saddle bag guards of his Harley. They stretch between the top of the front guard and the bottom. The right guard holds a water bottle, the left has a closing pocket for stuff. This puts stuff within reach while keeping his handlebars clear of junk. Anyone know a source for a RSTD-sized similar product?
Kregerdoodle Posted January 22, 2009 #2 Posted January 22, 2009 I have seen those on a Hardly, and was thinking much like you how great that would be. I have not seen anything for the RSV though, I wonder how much customizing one would need to do to make them fit?? Please post if anyone has some info on them.. Kreg
Cerviperus Posted January 22, 2009 #3 Posted January 22, 2009 JC Whitney Whitehorse Gear I believe both of the above are branded River Road, and they're listed for Harley. But, if you can get dimensions off of them, or compare those on the Harley to the RSV, maybe they could easily be made to fit.
Freebird Posted January 22, 2009 #4 Posted January 22, 2009 JC Whitney used to sell one made by Hopnel that they listed specifically for the RSV. I have one but I don't see it listed there now. Here are some more though. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=0&Category_ID=0&manufacturer_ID=62&product_ID=2052&sblid_name=Hopnel_Beverage_Holder http://www.whitehorsepress.com/product_info.php?products_id=5352
KiteSquid Posted January 22, 2009 #5 Posted January 22, 2009 I guess you would have to compare the difference of the bar diameters and the top to bottom spacing..... I was thinking about making some for my RSV..... I have a half hide of oil tanned leather laying around.
Guest BluesLover Posted January 22, 2009 #6 Posted January 22, 2009 The gap between the top and bottom rails is way different between the Harley and the Venture. There was a company out there (I tried to go back through my notes to see what their name was, but can't find it) that used to make them for the venture. I email them a while back and never got a response. By the way, my buddy had one of those on his Harley and wound up taking it off - got in the way for his passenger and because of the location, the water would not stay cold (pretty close to those pipes, eh?!) Cheers,
Roadhand Posted January 23, 2009 #7 Posted January 23, 2009 I agree, it may not stay cold but if riding in hot weather, and the lord knows it does get hot here in Texas, and (saying a flat tire or something unforseen) it might come in handy. Let me know if you find something that works. I will do the same.
Prozak Posted April 27, 2009 #8 Posted April 27, 2009 Hiya gang! I do custom leather work and I also ride an '07 RSTD! If you're interested, I could make a set specifically for the Royal Star Saddlebag rails. Check out my website: http://www.tscustomleather.com

Check out my website: www.tscustomleather.com I have orderd the ones from JC whitney that they said would fit a RSV and they do not fit...had to send them back. Prozak...got any photos? what will they cost. I like the concept of the River Road products...water bottle on one side...pouch the other side. Let us know. I think several of us Venture folks will be interested in something like this.

kd4uvc Posted June 5, 2009 #11 Posted June 5, 2009 Got a set from the Yahama shop, the generic kind. The placement of the passenger floorboards makes them impossible to use. Also the saddlebag rails are too short for the add on. Luckly, I tried them on at the dealership and returned for my money. Ended up buying the cup holder instead, not great but better than nothing.

Is it possible to make them out of a "leather look"? I ride 365 and so I tend to get wet a lot. I hesitate to use real leather because of that. Let us know and I think there are quite a few who would be interested.
