Yamaha to close motorcycle production lines for 10 days

January 19th, 2009

Responding to slumping sales Yamaha is following the road taken by several other manufacturers and cutting back on its motorcycle production and temporarily shutting some facilities.

Japan's Yamaha Motor Co Ltd made the announcement on Friday, confirming it would cut output by halting production at 11 facilities amid the global economic slump.

Yamaha said in a release it would stop production for seven to 10 days in February and March at facilities making motorcycles, recreational vehicles, marine sports vehicles, industrial robots and parts.

MamaYama also raised their current parts prices, some up 30% (Clutch boss for MK1-- $64 last year--- $95 now! Glad I broke mine last year!). Gotta make it up somewhere.
