Freebird Posted January 19, 2009 #1 Posted January 19, 2009 I don't think that this will affect many of us but we do have some corporate types here so it never hurts to put it out there. Eck sent this to me and it sounds like a pretty bad one. http://www.dailytech.com/New+Rampant+Windows+Worm+Seizes+8+Million+Business+PCs+in+a+Week/article13981.htm
Kregerdoodle Posted January 19, 2009 #2 Posted January 19, 2009 now that is ugly.... hopefully the IT guru`s are on top of it at work...
friesman Posted January 19, 2009 #3 Posted January 19, 2009 we had about 30 students bring it in on their flash drives I guess. Our Sophos A/V picked it up right away and cleaned everything up. The kids are only sposed to use the flash drive at school,,,,,,,,yeah,,,,like thats gonna happen, LOL brian
Snaggletooth Posted January 19, 2009 #4 Posted January 19, 2009 That looks like a nasty one for sure. Sent the link to our IT guy and he hadn't heard of it. Anyone intersted in an IT position stay tuned......may have one open soon. LOL!
BuddyRich Posted January 20, 2009 #5 Posted January 20, 2009 Yea, We started verifying that all of our servers were up to date last week. I just worry that there will be other variants next week.
friesman Posted January 20, 2009 #6 Posted January 20, 2009 Yea, We started verifying that all of our servers were up to date last week. I just worry that there will be other variants next week. It seems like such a waste of time. i spent a big part of the day checking 60 servers in town to double check on the updates and sophos A/v status. If jerks wouldnt write this stuff I could concentrate on real work. Plus it would save my school division about 35k a year on the Antivirus yearly contract renewal. Brian:mo money:
frogmaster Posted January 20, 2009 #7 Posted January 20, 2009 If you click link then click the MS-08-067 link you will go to Microsoft and see this is OLD NEWS from 23 Oct 2008. Keep your anti virus up to date.
BuddyRich Posted January 20, 2009 #8 Posted January 20, 2009 I agree. Waste of my time. We spend a lot of AV and firewalls and all that. I just look at it as job security. I did see it was an old update. But like a lot of shops we have servers that can't go down till we decide its time for them to go off line. Even a few minutes is critical on some of them. Those are the ones I call job insecurity..

Yes it is an old update, but somehow that little voice in head was saying you gotta double check just in case someone missed something..........dont worry I dont listen to the voice on too many other things.... brian:rotfl:
