Sling Posted January 17, 2009 #1 Posted January 17, 2009 Okay, I'm on a quest!!! Last week we went to Steve Wagners for a mini maint. day. While we were there, Dave3 showed me his exhaust tips (On a stock exhaust system) he told me where he got his bike and told me they installed them. I contacted the Dealer and they couldn't help me. Maybe I didn't explain it well enough! In my searching I came across an article from 2005 in Motorcycle-usa.com see link below:(hope link works) At the bottom of the article there is a photo showing the tips saying "They can be removed, or turned around or swapped out with different ones with a set screw!" Does anyone here know where these can be found ? thanks in advance http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/275/936/Motorcycle-Article/2005-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tour-Deluxe.aspx
M61A1MECH Posted January 17, 2009 #2 Posted January 17, 2009 What you saw were most likely the mufflers from a Tour Deluxe. The mufflers on the Royal Star Tour Deluxe are different from the mufflers on the Venture. The TD have the removable tips, the Ventures do not. The TD mufflers should fit right on in place of the Venture mufflers, so if you can find a set, with the tips, you can just swap them out.
StarFan Posted January 17, 2009 #4 Posted January 17, 2009 Hi Rick. Is this what you are looking for? Check out the following website: http://www.khromewerks.com/
Chinto Posted January 19, 2009 #5 Posted January 19, 2009 Are these the exhaust tips you are looking for? If so, they are from the RSTD. I have always liked the slash cut look. I simply replaced my stock Venture exhaust can with the Tour Deluxe can. Perfect swap. Mine came from ebay.
Sling Posted January 19, 2009 Author #6 Posted January 19, 2009 Yes that is them. Thanks, now I know what to look for.
Guest divey Posted January 20, 2009 #7 Posted January 20, 2009 Rick, you don't have to buy an RSTD exhaust for those tips. If you want to save some $$, you can mount them on the stock RSV exhaust. I put them on my 07 RSV last year. Start by inserting the tip in the exhaust with the slash pointing the direction you want. Tape it on with masking tape, making sure that you get the angle right especially if your bike is on it's side stand. From inside the tip, mark the two holes with a pencil (I used the top and bottom hole) on the bevelled metal piece at the end of the exhaust. Remove the tip and drill a 5mm hole in the bevelled piece. Try to keep your drill as perpendicular as possible so as not to drill the hole at an angle. Take a 6mm X 1 tap and thread the hole. I had to tap mine by hand as the t-handle would not work due to the tight working space. The bevelled piece is not overly thick so it's fairly easy to thread that hole without the use of the t-handle. Once you get both holes threaded, try the supplied screws to make sure they thread in okay. Now put your tip back on and thread the screw in by hand (not much room to work). Once it's finger tight, use an angled allen wrench to cinch it up (don't overtighten as the bevelled piece of metal is not thick). I used blue lock-tight on my screws and rode my bike all last summer and fall and all 4 screws stayed tight without having to retighten them. They look great and they add a slight throatier sound to the bike. If you buy your tips in the US, your's might not be metric sizes so make sure you confirm the sizes of the screws before you start drilling. The drill bit size needs to be smaller than the tap size. Good luck.......Doug
Sling Posted January 20, 2009 Author #8 Posted January 20, 2009 Divey, I'm all for saving money, but I'm having trouble finding the tips. When I call a dealer they just scratch their head saying they don't know about the tips. Where do you get them?
Freebird Posted January 20, 2009 #9 Posted January 20, 2009 I think you'll find the tips to be VERY expensive from a dealer. If you watch, you can sometimes find a like new set of mufflers on Ebay. I bought a set off a new RSTD for $50.00 complete with tips.
Guest divey Posted January 21, 2009 #10 Posted January 21, 2009 Divey, I'm all for saving money, but I'm having trouble finding the tips. When I call a dealer they just scratch their head saying they don't know about the tips. Where do you get them? Rick, I just checked the Yamaha Canada website and came up with this: http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/accessories/images/STR-1D693-50-01.jpg http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/cached/6e49d4c6f19fe1cb6ffd8ccad5a2327a.gif Available as an accessory in Canada only. Colors/Finish: Smooth STR-1D693-50-01 MSRP: $166.95 As you can see they are pricey and available as an accessory only in Canada. I actually got mine at my local dealer for a bit less than that. He had a pair in stock and they had been there for awhile so perhaps he was just happy to get rid of them. As Freebird suggests, you might want to watch ebay or if your desperate, try ordering online from Yamaha Canada. Doug
Chinto Posted January 21, 2009 #11 Posted January 21, 2009 Ebay is the way to go for the tips. If you are happy with the stock muffler sound then the lightly used OEM TD muffler is the best way. You might check with your local dealer to see if they have a RSTD set of mufflers from someone who had the dealer swap out the exhaust. Long shot but you may get lucky. Otherwise, ebay usually will have a set for auction. The set I bought was $75 with only 500 miles on them and they looked brand new. My bike came with a set of BUBS, that I felt was to loud and I didn't like the tip so much. Ebayed those and made alittle money for the chrome fund.
Sling Posted January 21, 2009 Author #12 Posted January 21, 2009 I went to my local dealer and asked about the tips was told I had to buy the 2 muffler assy's They said it is the only way to get them $399.00 EACH!OUCH!! Yes I am going to be spending time watching EBay I've got nothing but time. I don't need them I want them so I can wait till the right deal comes along!! Again thanks everyone for the help..
