a1bummer Posted January 12, 2009 #1 Posted January 12, 2009 Anybody else ever have a problem with their tach making noise? At first I thought my speedo needed to be greased again. I greased the speedo and the noise was still there. It would come and go but not stay gone. Then I noticed that when I engaged the clutch when going down the road the noise stopped. I hit the throttle and it came back. Then I had a "DUH!" moment and realized it was the tach making the annoying noise.
MiCarl Posted January 12, 2009 #2 Posted January 12, 2009 The tachometer is electronic. Nothing really moves except the needle. I think it's unlikely that the noise is coming from there. What about parked, in neutral? The tachometer doesn't care if you are moving or not.

a1bummer Posted January 12, 2009 Author #4 Posted January 12, 2009 Yup, moving, sitting still, doesn't matter. I hit the throttle and it makes noise. I would imagine there is a motor or something that spins the needle, (dunno, never had to take one apart), and that's where the problem is. It still works, but it's annoying on a quiet drive down the back roads.
