chrisboggsfmc Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Greetings Every time I've changed my oil I've always noticed the smell of gas shortly after the oil drains into the pan. Don't get the smell of gas any other time. Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks
BuddyRich Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Don't think I have heard that one yet but it sure can't be a good thing.
Squeeze Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Sounds like your babying your Bike, or at least you lugging the Engine.
Redneck Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 That is an indication it is running very rich or missing or not firing on one cylinder. How is it running? I would pull the plugs and look at them a rich condition will make the plug black a cylinder not firing will be wet and washed clean.
Rottdoglover Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 And carbs may be leaking gas into cylinder when setting. Neighbor kids crotch rocket did this, but he wasn't lucky enough to notice till motor blew. Hope you find the source soon.

Bad Coil on one cilinder.
rod Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Could be several things. I would start with the float level and work from there. Non firing cylinder is possible and I would take it in for warranty work ASAP to be on the safe side. Good luck Rod
davecb Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 If your bike is setting for long periods, and you don't close the fuel petcock, gas can leak from the carb bowls, past the rings and into the oil. That is why they have a fuel shutoff petcock....

That is why they have a fuel shutoff petcock.... I would second this. This is a big problem on bikes that have an automatic fuel shutoff like the kawi Concourse. Many people change out to a manual petcock. Also if a cylinder fills with gas and you try to start it, the cylinder can hydrolock bending the connecting rod. Then you've really got problems.-Jack:mo money:

mraf Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Besides the smell of gas has there been any other tell-tale signs of excess gasoline usage? Whats your M.P.G., does your fuel pump seem to run alot if just turning bike to on, how many times to turn on to fill carb bowls? Like has been said check condition of plugs, time for new plugs, check for weak spark before installing. I've lost just one cylinder before but still impressed with the smoothness of the motor, just boggy.
cliffno350 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) a sticky float will cause this to gas in the oil isnt good how ever its getting there, is your oil level increasing? check closely this can tell you if your really getting gas in the oil or you are just getting a gas smell from somewhere else when you change the oil.
