MamaMo Posted January 9, 2009 #1 Posted January 9, 2009 Ok time for a thread on How we are doing. What plan are you trying? Tips? Recipes? Ideas? etc. I will start out by saying I am going low-carb. I know that my body does not do well with alot of carbs. Hypothyroid will make it harder. Hopefully my meds are right or near right. I will be digging out my low carb recipes that I tryed when I lost the extra weight before. At least I kept most of the weight off that I lost 5 years ago(65lb). I only gained less than half back. Just think I work in a store full of junk food. So far so good I think. Only snacks I would allow myself this week at the store was pizza flavored pork rinds, beef sticks, protein bars. Good Luck everyone. Yes Cindy you seem to want the things you can't have. If you can do without for 2 weeks than you have a good start. But there are recipes out there that help when you really crave something. Check on the forums for the type plan you are using. I will be making my low carb pizza. No crust. Sugarfree cheesecakes etc. PM me if anyone needs those type recipes. Yes it can be done. We can lose this weight. I attacted a photo from around 2000 I was that big until 2003 when I decided NO MORE. My health is more important.
Cinderella Posted January 9, 2009 #2 Posted January 9, 2009 dont have a REAL plan....just going to try to cut out the sweets and sugar....the pastas, potatoes, breads. and stop snacking...... high protein.. I stocked up on fresh and canned fruits, fresh veggies......snacks like low fat yogurt, and to get something sweet they had those 100 calorie snack thingys on sale this week..... I even bought diet pepsi and i hate diet pop..... bought splenda sweetner for my coffee.....etc. now to motivate myself to go out walking or maybe even go try curves again..... I did curves for a short time back a few years and it was working.....but our schedules changed and i couldnt find time to get there. I would love to find some excercise equipment like bowflex type thing so i could do it at home at my own leisure......been looking around craigslist, etc for some used ones....sears has a decent sale going on on their equipment right now....but do i want to spend the money????? i do not have a lot of will power...never have:8:.so this is gonna be a tough one for me. and Mo i think your hubby was with a different woman .....never would have known that was you......
RoadKill Posted January 9, 2009 #3 Posted January 9, 2009 I'm using Weight Watchers My official goal was 35lbs, unofficially 40lbs. 1st week I've lost 6 lbs. My only problem is a low calorie, low fat salty snack other than rice cakes. Any ideas would be appreciated. Jay

My brother-in-law is a full time firefighter and part time sheriff deputy. He uses the crossbow and said it works as well as the bowflex, but alot cheaper and he is in REALLY good shape.

Freebird Posted January 9, 2009 #10 Posted January 9, 2009 We have some equipment in a room in the basement. I can tell you though, it hardly EVER gets used.
mini-muffin Posted January 9, 2009 #11 Posted January 9, 2009 Remember to eat breakfast folks. Not the huge stuff either. Remember sounds funny but fiber is your friend. :rotf: It's good for ya in the morning. Plenty of veggies and fruits too. I agree with Don usually don't use the equipment if you have it. Usually ends up as storage space. Margaret
RedRider Posted January 9, 2009 #12 Posted January 9, 2009 I've started getting back to the gym playing basketball. We start about 5:45 am and play till a little after 7. Until I get 20 or so pounds lost, my knees and hips are going to kill me. However, it is the price of being lazy. My goal is to loose 20 lbs this year. It will allow me to sit in the saddle for longer periods!! Working up for more Long Distance riding (Minnesota 1000, or Utah 1088, or SS3000). RR
GeorgeS Posted January 9, 2009 #13 Posted January 9, 2009 I'm leaveing right now!! I go 3 to 5 times a week. For 1 hour !! Starting the 4th year of this, next month. Life is better, and I eat whatever want !! Except Sugar My wife is always complaining that she can't haul enough stuff home from the grocerary store. Hmmm
Brake Pad Posted January 9, 2009 #14 Posted January 9, 2009 I started in the Gym Wednesday, and just returned, I'm going every day next week. I think I'm going to build a Lap pool, on my back patio. swimming being the best thing.
Yammer Dan Posted January 9, 2009 #15 Posted January 9, 2009 sears has weiders.......i was checking them out.... GREAT!! For hanging clothes on!!! I have the equipment and before my accident used it every day. Getting started is the hard part. If you start and make yourself stay with it a few weeks you will develope a desire to do it. Getting to the stage that you want to do it is the hard part. And don't use the excuse "If I pay that much for it I'm going to use it!!" It don't work you have to drive yourself. I ran a mile the week before I was hurt in 6 min 30 sec. Now probally 6 hr 30 min!!

TopV Posted January 9, 2009 #17 Posted January 9, 2009 Have to lose 60 pounds. Doing 1500 calories a day split up in to 5 small meals and going to the gym 6 days a week. Have managed to lose 8 pounds since the 1st. Also would be willing to keep this support group up if anyone is willing. Joe
MamaMo Posted January 10, 2009 Author #19 Posted January 10, 2009 I think we will have a great support group here. We are a family and we care about each other. I think we all can make our goals just don't quit. If one method isn't working try a different one. The hardest part is those 1st two weeks. We all are trying for the better of ourselves, for family, to live longer, and to help raise money for a important cause. But we cannot let it end on MD just because we have weigh in. We have to maintain it after MD. We will be there for each other throughout. :clap2:Let's do it. So what if we are not all doing the same type of weigh loss plan. If you are needing ideas post them. We as family will help find the answers. Bob you said you are hungry. What type of plan are you doing? Maybe we can give you ideas for snacks. If you have diabetes let us know so we can look for carb counts and sugar grams when asking for ideas, recipes, etc. Also if you need low fat, low sodium, etc.
Squidley Posted January 10, 2009 #20 Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks for the thread Mo, This is what I like to see and I'm all for the support for eachother. Really 2 things to remember, you have to limit what you eat, portions should be kept small, and exersize. Those are the 2 things that will keep weight off you. I know I am VERY guilty of eating large portions, now being past 40 I have to change my way of thinking of how much to eat. I have been stretching before work everyday and I definitely feel a difference. Good luck to all you you with your weight loss and always remember that I am here to chat with anyone that wants to
BIG TOM Posted January 10, 2009 #21 Posted January 10, 2009 Taters and I both started weight watchers a day or two before the weight thread started..perfect timing and it gave us the motovation we needed..both just weighed in..its working...As long as we are commited to stick with it, this is gonna be a snap.(POSITIVE THINKING) Of course, both of us having the flu this week really helped too..lol.. good luck everyone:pushups::pushups:
Kidh2 Posted January 10, 2009 #22 Posted January 10, 2009 I just stop drinking beer and the weight falls off. Have been going to a local gym for the past 5 years 3-5 times a week, cardio and weight training. The beer is my downfall and makes me soft around the middle no matter how much I train.
Yammer Dan Posted January 10, 2009 #23 Posted January 10, 2009 Chocolate Fried Chicken Ham Biscuits & Gravy
93 venture Posted January 10, 2009 #24 Posted January 10, 2009 For breakfast im gonna do 21 frosted mini wheats and 1/2 cup 2% milk or oat meal. Lunch at work i will do subway foot long on wheat, either turkey or veggie.i do have half of it at first break and then the other half at supper time. The hard part for me is the week ends and when i come home from work at night.that when i need to find some kind of low carb snack.I also have to cut out my pepsi That is going to hurt the most.
Cinderella Posted January 10, 2009 #25 Posted January 10, 2009 .I also have to cut out my pepsi That is going to hurt the most. i hear ya on that one............i despise diet sodas...and love my pepsi...but i did buy the pepsi one....in my opinion its not as bad as regular diet pepsi....1 calorie and sweetned with splenda I think u get used to it after a while......mostly i will drink crystal lite, the single packs u mix in a bottle of water, plan to carry them if i eat out so i can just order water and mix them in....saves a little money at a restaraunt also. I like these.....especially the pink lemonade.
