Dragonslayer Posted January 8, 2009 #1 Posted January 8, 2009 I was woke up this morning by the leading report on Good Morning America about the record rainfall, snow melt runoff and record flooding in your area that's going on. I immediately thought of you and our other members up in the NorthWest corner of the country. Please respond if you can and let us know if your safe and out of harms way. Or if not what I or others of us can do to assist you if your in trouble. Until I know I'll just pray that you and your family are Ok and out harms way. As I'm sure others will be doing that are reading this post.
painterman67 Posted January 8, 2009 #2 Posted January 8, 2009 prayers are sent up my friend. YOu helped me out with a very detailed pm on electrical problem so this is the least I can do. David
Mariner Fan Posted January 8, 2009 #3 Posted January 8, 2009 According to all my family members in Washington, its been a real mess.
BoomerCPO Posted January 8, 2009 #4 Posted January 8, 2009 The brief news clips of the flooding out there do NOT look good. Prayers and good thoughts for the safety of George and family. Regards and respect...........Boomer
GeorgeS Posted January 9, 2009 #5 Posted January 9, 2009 Here's the deal, There are lots of Rivers out here, they all run West From the Cascade Mts. going to Pudget Sound, or the Pacific Ocean. ( about every 10 miles, North to South, there is a River-- { with Fish } ) I'm on High Ground, about 400 feet down the valley to the Cedar River, I can look down on it from my back yard---- !!! No Problem, as they say. --- It Rained (( POURED )) for about 37 hours straight, about 10 inches around Seattle itself, but much more North and South of the Metro area. ---- Last week the Snow of 2 to 4 feet piled up on the Cascade Range, Temperature went UP-- and the Rainfall was about 15 + inches up in the Mts. So all that snow is melting. Most of the Rivers have a Dam, Up Stream in the Cascades someplace, so they are able to control the Water , MOST, of the time, but not this time. About 25 rivers, hit 15 to 35 feet above Flood Stage, and out here, it happens fast when it happens. So lots of folks that live close to the Rivers ( about 25 of them ) in Washington, got flooded. The last of them are Cresting just about now. ( this afternoon ) I-5, is Closed for 15 miles, near Centrailia, I-90 is Closed in Downtown Seattle because of LandSlide. Also its Closed Over the Cascades, for Avalance Control. I-5 North of Seattle Was closed, but may be back open now. All Highways In Washington State, going over the Cascade Range, ( Canada, to Oregon ) are closed for either, Snow Fall, Water over road, Avalance Control, or Land Slides !!! The Entire Town of Orting, Wa. was evacuated yesterday about 5 PM late afternoon. Water was up 1 to 2 feet over the entire town, the Mayor, gave up and Issused an Evacuation Alert. One guy on a TV Station, made a comment last evening, that EVERY, State and Federal Highway West of the Cascades was Closed down at some Point. Either for Standing Water, of MudSlides. Note: for Easterners, "" Land Slides "" !! are a common occurence out here, as the soil is very Sandy, and Gravely. After long periods of Heavy Rain, it gets Saturated, and just starts to Run down the Hills, ( We have Lots of Hills !!! ) Also, to make it even more fun, All those 100 and 200 ft. Xmas Trees, around here, have very Shallow Root Systems, If you Add Wind on top of all the Water, they start to go over !!!! That turns into lots of Downed Power Lines, The Pinapple Express, is moveing South Into Oregon State, so they are still getting pounded down in Oregon. From What I've heard its worse down there. If your in Idaho, Montana, N.D, Colo, Wyomeing, get ready, the Snow is comeing your way !!!! ---- When I moved here in 1983, I made Darn Sure , I bought a house on HIGH GROUND!!!!! So far, So Good --- knock knock on wood. Anyway, I got the HOT GRIPS, installed this morning--- They work Good !!!!! But it was a pretty long drawn out job installing the wireing -- I might move to Texas !!!!!!!!!!!!!! or somplace ??
Mariner Fan Posted January 9, 2009 #6 Posted January 9, 2009 Well, Centralia should be used to it. They get flooded every year. It must be really crazy with all the interstates shut down. I remember one year when we were stuck in Kent because Snoqualmie was closed due to avalanches. I've never seen so many cars stuck in traffic.
friesman Posted January 9, 2009 #7 Posted January 9, 2009 Glad to hear youre doing fine George. Ill bet youre happy now that youre on the high spot instead of opting for "the riverview" that some ppl pay so much for. (...and keep on paying for ...with every flood) Brian

I was having nighmares of how my life could go on if something were to happen to you.
sarges46 Posted January 9, 2009 #9 Posted January 9, 2009 Well thats good news. Now for our thoughts and well wishes for all of you that are "drowning" out west! I lived in Vancouver BC in my past life and have been through some of that stuff.....muds slides, bridges and homes being taken out and enough rain to consider taken some old growth trees down to make an ark! Take care you guys! Some folks back then drove off into the abyss when the bridge that was supposed to be there was not, having been taken out during the night.
cecdoo Posted January 9, 2009 #10 Posted January 9, 2009 Glad to hear you are ok George, we have a town in Pa called Centralia, it also needed to be evacuated. There are coal mines underneath it that have been on fire for as long as I remember. Havent been up that way for awhile, maybe the finally burnt out? Craig
