I got a bunch of coupons for Marlboros today and I cant use them. $24 worth

I have placed an ad in the OPE auctions for them.

The winning amount for the coupons will go to the OPE fund.

I hope I dont offend anyone who doesnt smoke by doing this.......:8:

just trying to save someone a lil $$$$

Did you skip your sensitivity training Class ????:duck:

Not sure what the OPE fund is and I'm sure you mean well but I disagree with this. Assisting someone in hastening their death by smoking is not something we should be doing. I don't know you and I've no doubt you're a good person based on what I've seen you post so please don't take this as a personal affront to you.

I should add that I've recently lost my Dad who was a heavy smoker. Lost him to Cancer so I obviously have some problems with smoking.

nothing personal taken as i knew there would be some negativity towards this show up some where along the line.:D

I know there are a lot of smokers in this group, they are going to smoke with or without the coupons.......i was only trying to save someone a few bucks and send a little $$ to the ope fund.

Please lets not turn this into a battle of the smokers versus the non. I believe we are all above that. We all have our own opinions.

anyone who wants the coupons should be free to try to get them without any guilt trips or having to weed thru this thread filled with arguments.

There are many many vises that are partaken of in this large group and we dont all agree about those either.:whistling::whistling:

Bigfoot, I dont know YOU either, and I'm sure you mean well. You've suffered a loss and now your sensitive to smoking. No difference from what bikers do, as seen from the point of view of non-riders. We've all heard stories about how some one got killed riding one of those 'damn murder-cycles'.....hey we all pick our poison and its a bit insincere to tell a bunch of risk takers including me that what YOU approve of is OK...but something you DONT approve of is NOT OK. Here's your quote with 'frequent rider' substituted for 'heavy smoker', and a couple of other substitutions:

I should add that I've recently lost my Dad who was a frequent rider . Lost him to motorcycles so I obviously have some problems with riding.

Think about it. Smoking, riding, flying, driving a car, drinking, taking a bath, getting medical tests done...they all have risks. We're all adults. I can deal with the risks in whatever I choose. I'm sure whoever buys those coupons can also.

Well said!

I'm going to smoke if I want to, no matter what anyone says, so some of the money I put towards it might as well benefit VentureRiders. My Father also passed from Smoking related illness, COPD. Its been almost 15 years and there isn't a day goes by I don't think of him. However, it is still a choice.

BTTW - I also give money to Heart Association and Cancer Society. Just trying to keep all the bases covered.:whistling:

bigfoot...noone answered your question about what ope fund is.....it is a fund for "out of pocket expenses" related to rallys and other doings....

i do have a suggestion if you are that serious about being against smoking...:innocent:....you could bid on the coupons and if you win have me destroy them or send em to you to destroy them........and then noone would be using them to get cigarettes.....:D

the whole idea here is to just put a couple bucks in the fund.

Well: some of the boys have put their thoughts in here and i can't really add to them, but, be OPEN MINDED on it, we all have given someone a gift, that could inflect injury, heck the company i work for gave me a fall arrest harness, all that did was give me the go ahead to stand on I beams 300 feet above ground, where common sence tells me to keep the heck off of there and if this dude is so opposed to the health issues, then he should really check into all the chemicals in or food that we buy over the grocery shelf, seems to be way to much cancer in our lives period, which must be from our food intake. pete

I second that,I think it's a very bad idea..... :yikes:

I lost my father and my wife to cancer caused by smoking.

And I wouldn't be auctioning, I would be shredding....

Damn evil cigarettes that just jump into someone's mouth and forces em to smoke....

And I don't even smoke cigarettes. I prefer my smoke with real tobacco, hand rolled by some hispanic fella in some country that I don't care about.

I really was going to shut up after the last post... But I can't let this stupid commentary go unchallenged - get offended if you must - but comparing riding a motorcycle to smoking is just assenine!! There is nothing, good, healthy, or socially acceptable about smoking (be it cigarettes, grass or hashish), and yes those are comparable. No redeeming factors in any of those... And poisoning those around you with second-hand smoke is no longer socially acceptable....In fact it's becoming legally actionable.

Comments like these get threads deleted. I always practice what my grandma said if you haven't got anything nice to say don't say anything.

You must not have seen the anti smoking commercial the "Marlboro Man" made just before dying from lung cancer....It was rather sobering....

No problem Cindy. You were trying to get money for a good cause, some folks can't just keep there opinions to themselves.

Margaret

I've said my piece and I thought I was respectful about doing so. By posting what you're posting here you are keeping the topic going and in a less than respectful way.

Cindy go ahead with your plan! This is a nice attempt Cindy was making to help the OPE fund. Nothing more.

If you do not want to bid, let those who do make their own decision. I am pretty sure, the members that smoke will still be buying themselves cigarettes anyway whether they use the coupons or not.
