neanderthall Posted July 16, 2007 #1 Posted July 16, 2007 I noticed a few small dark drips under my bike and when I investigated I saw that they are oil drips, and they are comming from one of the tubes that just end under the bike. The other bikes I have had have all had these tubes and none of them have dripped oil before. This is a 2007 Venture and only has a few thousand miles on it and I'm not happy. Hopefully someone here will let me know whats going on and if it's something I should be concerned about and if I should take it back to the dealer for repair.
DkKnight Posted July 16, 2007 #2 Posted July 16, 2007 I noticed oil on my kickstand tip (which lays against one of those tubes) after about 5k miles. I asked the dealer about it and they said it was "normal". I have had the oil changed 2-3 times since, still does it. Last week when Rich 99 and Lone Eagle came to my house for our trip to Fort Collins, I noticed that both of their bikes (99 Venture and a 2006 RSTD) had "marked" my garage floor with the same type of "drip"). That leads me to believe that it is truly a common thing. Not a mechanic by anymeans, just my observations.
gibvel Posted July 16, 2007 #3 Posted July 16, 2007 Check your oil level. These bikes do not like to be filled more than slightly above halfway up the sight glass. This may be why you're getting this.

The most likely cause is too much oil in the crankcase. If you fill to the book's spec (3.9 qt. ?) / top mark at the oil sight glass, oil will drip from the bottom hose(s). Nothing to worry about. On subsequent oil changes, add oil until just at or slightly above the mid point between the low and high marks for the oil level.
