renate Posted January 5, 2009 #1 Posted January 5, 2009 My friends, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a great start in the new year. As for me, well here is my story For months I was talking about nothing else than our trip to Germany. I had not spend christmas with my family for over 23 years and Alan had never been there, so it was even more exciting for him. However, as it turned out, NOTHING happened the way we imagined it. My parents big 50th wedding aniversary party was canceled. My dad is in the hospital in a koma, awaiting a tripple by pass (the second time) IF he recovers. I never had a chance to even talk to him, but I wispered in his ears that I would come back to see him when he comes home. Christmas eve without him was not the same. Than Alan and I both got the flu. Not what you want when you an vacation. To make matters even worse, my best friend's husband (age 51) past away two weeks prior to our arrival. She did'n want to spoil my christmas with her news, so she waited to tell me until I got there. It hit me like a hammer, we've been friends for 20 years. Needless to say , there was no party either. We did managed to do some side seeing and Alan loved driving on the Autobahn ( no speed limid). This is the short version of our trip to Germany. Nothing but sadness all around. We are so happy to be back home. Yeap, and the new year is not starting off very good either. I'm sitting in a hotel somewhere in Hammond Indiana for two days, waiting for my truck to be repaired (needs an aircompressor), and that on my first load out. I sure hope the rest of the year will be better. ON A LIGHTER NOTE Alan and I spend the New Years at the casino. He won $1200 and I $2000. It sure comes in handy for not going to work the last two weeks. So, that's it, I wish I had some thing better to tell you all. Please keep my dad in your prayers. I wish you all a wonderful and happy New Year Al & Renate
mini-muffin Posted January 5, 2009 #2 Posted January 5, 2009 Definitely keeping all in our prayers. I'm so sorry it wasn't a great trip. Maybe the next time you get out there everyone will be healthy and ready to party. Margaret
1BigDog Posted January 5, 2009 #3 Posted January 5, 2009 Sorry to hear of such bad news. To make things a little easier on you consider the fact that you at least had the chance to meet and comfort one another in person. Im sure your father heard your whisper and he will be around to repeat it to you when he gets well. We will keep you all in our prayers...................
cecdoo Posted January 6, 2009 #4 Posted January 6, 2009 Sorry to hear about your Dad and the trip. Hopefully Dad will start doing better and your 2009 will improve daily. Good Luck and Good thoughts for your Dad. Craig
sarges46 Posted January 6, 2009 #5 Posted January 6, 2009 That is sad to hear. Our thoughts are with you and your family. One said at least you got to be there for them. In a way I guess that is a good thing....

PBJ Posted January 6, 2009 #8 Posted January 6, 2009 I can't imagine returning home to see family and friends and to have so many tragedies.. But th epowers that be brought you rhome to visit with your friend after her loss and to speak to your father even if he couldn't respond. Lets hope the flu will be the worst of your problrems for this year. drive safe out there. Hope you and Al have a better year from here on out..
Princess M Posted January 7, 2009 #9 Posted January 7, 2009 I'm sorry sorry to hear all you bad news. It's bad enough just dealing with that but to have to deal with it around the holidays and on a dream vacation just makes it even worse. That really sucks. I guess you could hope that all your bad luck came at once and you won't be due anymore for the rest of the year. Prayers going out for you and your family and friends.
painterman67 Posted January 7, 2009 #10 Posted January 7, 2009 prayers sent for one and all.................hope your dad gets well soon and your lives ease up a bit too...think positive. David
autopilot Posted January 7, 2009 #11 Posted January 7, 2009 I don't know what to say.. Prayers up for you and yours.
krispy Posted January 7, 2009 #12 Posted January 7, 2009 Renata, Sorry to hear that you found so much bad news on your trip to Germany. I know it wasn't what you had planned, but remember that the news would have been the same, whether you were there or not, and this way you were there with your family and your friend, as you all go through some tough times. Just being there for each other is often about the best thing you can do to get through. Remember, too, that there are many of us here that are keeping your Dad, you and Al, and the rest of your family in our prayers, and though we can't be physically THERE for you, we are HERE for you. Here's hoping and praying that your Dad makes a good recovery, and that the year ahead goes better for you all. Keep us posted about your dad when you can. Here's a big hug for you..... Larry & Denise
Red1 Posted January 11, 2009 #13 Posted January 11, 2009 Man! What can you say about a trip like that? I'm at a loss for words....when has that ever happened before? Really sorry to hear about your dad - best wishes for a speedy recovery for him. And for you and Al - a trip like that can leave you scarred for life. I sure hope you have better luck in Jamaica. You're not going during hurricane season, are you?
