Bubber Posted January 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2009 I have a Stebel Horn on my 2006 Midnight aand it sounded like a strangled cheicken at the end of last year. Lowel at the Pork in the Pines suggested to squirt a shot of sicone spray in the intake and it was better but not like it was when I put it on. I have been looking at different sights for a new one and was wonderif someone has a site that can beat $36.00 plus shipping? If so please share with me. I also thought of contacting Strebel but I don't how to get ahold of them to see if they will do someting as far as warrentee. Any suggestions? BE NICE!!!!! MAINEAC Posted January 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 4, 2009 Make sure it's wired right... Don't ask how I know this... Try reversing the wires to the Stebel... this won't hurt it... It's worth a try
V7Goose Posted January 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2009 You probably have it mounted so that the intake is exposed to road debris (the horn comes with a tube to mount the intake in a protected location if necessary). I can tell you from experience that if you mount any air-horn compressor wrong so that the intake is contaminated with dirt and such (ESPECIALLY if it is mounted upside down), you will eventually get gravel and other stuff stuck in the reeds, ruining the horn. Sometimes you can force this stuff past the reeds to fix a bad trumpet with a blast of high pressure air, but I don't know how you could do that with a Stebel. The message here is to do something different when you mount the new horn! Even if you buy a new one, I'd still try to ask Stebel to repair/replace it. Can't hurt none! Bubber Posted January 4, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted January 4, 2009 Horn is mounted correctly and wired correctly. I have a tube on the intake to point the intake to the back of the bike to prevent sucking up debree . When first installed it worked great and did for about 5-10 blasts then it sounded real bad as if it wasn't compressing air and it sounded sick and no volume (dB). I may have got a bad one or it did suck something into the intake all I know is it has got to go or get fixed, one or the other. Steve
Zfrebird4 Posted January 4, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 4, 2009 A year ago I had electronic air horns installed on my 86 VR. My wrench recommended PIAA by Power Sports Horn System. My wrench simply unplugged the originals, and installed these; he didn't even chare me labor. The cost was $99.95 for two. And folks really know I am around if they need too. In fact, I have to be careful and just use it lightly. Scared a pedesterian who thought she was near a semi. That's how well they work. The brochure says PO505-HORN P/S Manual: PIAA COrporation USA, 15370 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton, Org. Phone 503-643-7422; www.piaa.com I also ride with legal, small strobe lights on all they time; they are the kind the police use on the sides of their motorcyles, and yellow of course. They have multiple blinking settings by dropping and re using the negative, which I had installed on a switch. No one misses my new (Squidley's and Lanna's) Brown Venture now! Write me if you want info on the small (LED) strobes; they were $50 each 2 years ago from a cop shop. Z aka Jack Tharp Ft. Collilns, CO Where the sun DOES shine. LOL Hey, any direction as long as I can ride! JDT
usnmustang Posted January 5, 2009 Share #7 Posted January 5, 2009 I picked this up from another forum, couldn't get a good link so I just copied to here. Not sure if it will work, I am planning on trying soon. Price has gone up some, but still comes out to about $32 + shipping for the chrome stebel. "For those of you looking to get a Stebel Air Horn for your bike, one of the forum members on the RoadStar Riders' forum has a business with a great deal (no, I'm not making commission )... Here's their shopping site: http://www.shop.gpecustom.com/main.sc and their main page : http://www.gpecustom.com/ They're offering about a %25 discount of stated prices, when you checkout on their shopping cart, put 'Star' in the coupon code for the discount to show. This is after you put in your name/address info, but BEFORE any payment in case you change your mind. The 'chromed' plastic version they list for $42 is about $31 after discount, and about $28 for their black version listed at $37" Depending on how long you have had it, the place you got it from may replace it. IMHO, it might be easier than trying to get one from Italy. Hope this helps, Jim
