wet roads were like riding on ice!!!

Since getting the RSV at thanksgiving the wife and I have been trying really hard to catch one good day to put a few miles on it. Well, today the temp was in the low

60's but kinda hazy and everything is wet. We hit a couple of places on the road that looked really smooth, and slick. When I hit these areas the bike felt like I was riding on ice. I knew I needed to replace the front tire but now I'm thinking I need to put new rubber on the back to. I'm talking, it felt REALLY SQUIRRLY!!!! From most of what I've read on here, the Avon Venoms are the recommended tire. How about wear? What kind of mileage can I expect to get out of the rear? Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Avon's are the only things I'd recommend, but I don't care what brand rubber you're using, water on oil is going to make things squirley....

I've been in rain, snow and on ice at low speed and at 70. Dunlop 404's do just fine just make sure you have good thread depth and proper pressure.

The Avon Venoms are awesome! On my old '96 Royal I got about 13,000+ on them riding two-up. Plus, they feel really good on the road. However ..., I have since found another tire which I also really really like, and that's the Dunlop Touring-Elite III. I have been using these for about a year on my '07 Venture riding two-up almost all the time and I have zero complaints about them. Everything is great about them from my experience.

I love Avon's in Rain, however damp roads just about any tire, even brand new may feel squirrely. I consistently get over 15,000 miles on my rear Avon and almost 30k on the front. Of course, everyone's riding style is different, and that has alot to do with tire wear. I also run the smaller front, which I really like for improved slow speed handling, which is a whole other issue.

The 404 are okay if you dont mind replacing them every 7000 miles, thats what happened on mine, then I went to the Avon Venoms and now I have over 10,000 miles on both and they still have plenty of tread left, when I bought my new Vstar 1300, same thing happended with those Dunlops, they werent 404's but same mileage......rotten..........put Avons on the Star, best ridding and handling tire out there for the money in mine and many others opinions...........

The 404s are ok and among the least expensive. I got 13,500 on my original 404s. I now have Elite 3s on the bike and have put 7000 miles on them and love them. They are great on wet roads. I was very surprised. And the Elites are a little less $$ than the Avons.

I now have over 11000 on my 404's with 99.9% 2 up use and plenty of thread left...So I have no Idea why yours would have gone so fast......

I got 14,000 miles on my original 404, but on the next two replacement 404’s I only got 7,000 miles:doh: each. No more 404’s for me.
