Let me just add this: GeorgeS spent several hours on the phone with me when I had my charging system issues and he walked me through most of the steps needed to correct this issue. I would seriously look into the rectifier plug and see if its corroded/worn. When LetHimRide came over and pulled the plug apart the connectors were barely making contact and one of the leads had melted the plug which prevented the connector from snapping back into place. Since the plug was burnt I found the proper wires with the correct connectors and did some of my own modifications all the while PM'ing George back and forth. The plug mod along with the Buckeye stator did the trick.

Not to be left out of this equation...Squidly had to endure numerous calls from me too. Even pestered Muffy a bit.

Electric issues are very frustrating. Have patience and it will all work out. Took me several months and the embarrassment of having to be push started in front of some Harleys.

Just for your info, I had a charging issue this fall. It would keep up on the highway but the battery would lose ground with any extra load including brake light, signal light or a good song on the radio.

For the last 3 weeks of the ridding season I avoided stopping, used a lot of hand signals and charged the battery 3 times a week;).

The stator tested fine with an ohmeter and load tested fine. Other than a few small voltage drops the rest of the system was good. I removed the stator and found it to be burnt. (I'm sure there is a shorted winding in there somewhere) New stator installed and it once again charges like it used to.

Electrical issues are not always cut and dry.

thanks

i will check connector...........yes, i'm also running tail/brake/signal lights.....radio, cruise, etc

i have the service manual so i'll glance at it.....but, i was showing 13.7 at an rpm well above idle ( don't have tach)....but that seems to be what it should be.....that's why i don't suspect anything wrong : it's just a weak system ...like most everyone says, and i'm just trying to save time

now ,can anyone give me the rpm /voltage specs on the buckeye stator?...would like to compare that to stock........
