BEER30 Posted December 27, 2008 #26 Posted December 27, 2008 Good for you , Don . On the phone ,it may not be your gig . But look as I see it . Use it only for emergency calls or if the wife needs you (both are important) . You can ignore the call by pressing the ignore button when a call comes in if you do not want to talk . Also it helps when trying to get together with another member while on the road . It's by luck that either of you will stop and look at missed calls at the same time . If a call comes in that I need to answer , I simply answer , tell them to hold for a moment until I pull over in a safe zone . Just because you have the ability to talk on the phone , doesn't mean you have too cackle like 2 hens while driving . But it does give you piece of mind knowing you can . Get the BuddyRich cable , as it help pipe in the tunes , prompts , and phone though the headset or speakers . Some phones allow you to voice dial as well . BEER30
hydraulicman Posted December 28, 2008 #27 Posted December 28, 2008 (edited) I use a Garman NUVI 750, has the auxiliary plug and a SD card slot. I have a 4GB SD card with about 30 CD loaded and its not half full. I can find gas stations, restaurant and other points of interest. What I like best is the ability to plan and load a route. Last spring I planned a 7 day trip, planning and loading each days route before I stated the trip. Its not water proof, but a zip lock bag slips over it and the mount if I get caught in the rain. Sam's has the units on sale for 200.00. Edited December 28, 2008 by hydraulicman

lonestarmedic Posted January 14, 2009 #32 Posted January 14, 2009 Do a bit of a search on these folks. They bait and switch. More bad reports than you can count. They also have many other names. Go to www.zumoforums.com and see the bad dealer list. Run away Run away. JB
AmnChode Posted January 14, 2009 #33 Posted January 14, 2009 I kinda cheated....On a whim, about 2 weeks before the new year I looked my rewards points for my debit card (which I usually forget about). I had a little under 65k points, with 7k expiring on the new year. So I traded in 60k for $600 worth of amazon.com gift certs, which I then applied to a new Zumo 550....Ended up only costing me $65 and change. Yeah me...hehehe:banana:
Freebird Posted January 14, 2009 Author #34 Posted January 14, 2009 I ended up buying mine from PC Nation. I found it a bit cheaper a few places but the customer feedback scared me off. PC Nation was great. Very fast shipping and no problems at all.
Tom Posted January 14, 2009 #35 Posted January 14, 2009 Yes, they both play MP3. I don't care about the phone when I'm riding. I don't want the XM because I already have a Sirius unit that I move back and forth between the bike and my work car and don't want to add another subscription. The only other thing I know of is the text to voice. From what I understand, that just means that though the 450 tells you when to turn and etc., it doesn't actually say the street names. Don,I read where you dont care about the phone when riding but I just wanted to relay a situation that came up 2 weeks ago with me. Ponch,Gunboat and I were going to meet Lonestarmedic and after about 2 hours or so of riding my phone rang (hooked in with BuddyRiches cable)It was my wife and She was FRANTIC as her Mom had just had a Stroke in Junction,Texas. Needless to say I was SO glad I had the phone hooked up as Debby was going to try driving there by herself and I was able to whip around and get back home to drive her to Junction. It is really good to have in that kind of emergency.I hated to leave Ponch and Gunboat but they understood. Just my 2 cents worth. She is doing OK now a few problems but OK.Thanks again to Ponch and Gunboat for their calls!Tom
