KeithR Posted December 26, 2008 #2 Posted December 26, 2008 I brought my remote to the electronics shop and had them put a push button on it and mounted it next to the accessory outlet in the faring.....the remote I just taped inside the faring. After I installed it I gave it a good treatment with dielectric grease. all it cost me was the price of the push button $4-$5 Keith
ronhenry4 Posted December 26, 2008 Author #3 Posted December 26, 2008 thats one of my problems is i cant find another control for it because its so old but i like that idea.. in the summer i put mine on my bike andthe winter in my jeep what a pain!
eazyduzzit Posted December 26, 2008 #4 Posted December 26, 2008 I bought a tiny remote at Home Depot. It has visor clip on it already. I used some double side tape and stuck a strip from an inner tube inside the clip. I slip the clip over the lower LH side of my windshield. You don't even notice it unless you're really looking for it. It's easy to reach and it works great. Of course if you can't find a remote that wouldn't work, but surely someone sells a remote for your opener.
ronhenry4 Posted December 26, 2008 Author #5 Posted December 26, 2008 isnt there a generic programable opener? maybei can go that route
Midrsv Posted December 26, 2008 #6 Posted December 26, 2008 The radio receiver on one of my openers failed a few years ago. I bought a Genie generic reciever and transmistter and hooked to the opener and it worked great. I probably bought it at Lowes or Home Depot. You might try that. DT
awsmsrv Posted December 26, 2008 #7 Posted December 26, 2008 Yes, I installed the F2P GDO, but I tapped into the brake lights instead of the headlight. It works great.
86er Posted December 27, 2008 #8 Posted December 27, 2008 A friend of mine bought basically that same system from Harley for his RoadGlide and since it had the HD name on it, he paid $120 for it. It works great though and you can take it with you if you move. I just got the little Gennie key fob remote and used velcro to hook it on left side of the dash cowl, out of the weather. I like that one because it will operate 3 different doors.
ronhenry4 Posted December 27, 2008 Author #9 Posted December 27, 2008 that sounds like a good idea if i can find one for my door
Dano Posted December 27, 2008 #10 Posted December 27, 2008 that sounds like a good idea if i can find one for my door Ron, most OH doors have 2 screws on the back where your button hooks up to. Any transmitter/receiver should work with this. All you're doing is taking a trans/receive (the receiver operates a microswitch when acivated by the transmitter) and making it work like the button. Most aftermarket units should work for you. Dan
petekadish Posted December 27, 2008 #11 Posted December 27, 2008 If you bring your current garage door opener, to a garage door vendor, they might be able to check it out and hook you up with another brand opener and set the programming the same so it will work for you. It worked for me anyway, so it might be worth a try. Good luck! Pete.
