hi bill & linda

i don't look at it as you failed the kids. you have been doing this for years.

kay jewelers has been doing a lot of tv adverising here in houston, but i never seen anything about buy a bear and they would send it to st. jude's. it's a shame that they want you to buy something else ( plus buying a bear ) in order for them to send the bear to st.jude's. shame on them i will now not ever set my foot inside their store/s.

I FEEL A TEDDY BEAR RUN COMING UP. any one game? i'am willing to buy some teddy bears and make the trip to st. jude's. but i will not have any more vacation/ floating holidays off till january 1. but i am ready to do this. i can possible put 50 or more teddy bears in my trailer to pull behind the scoot. and if need be i'll drive my pickup i have a shell covering the bed. how many bears do we need? sorry brad & lonna will have to miss the michigan m&e if we can put this together. let me know bill.

" i let the kids down this year. i went to kay jewelers to buy some teddy bears to send to st. jude. they have a deal every year where if you buy the bear they send it to st. jude. i do it every year. last year they said i had to buy some jewelry or something to buy the bear. i bought some ring cleaner. this year they would'nt wait on me. other people came in after me and i just stood there waiting while they waited on them. finally i told linda screw this place. i hate it when businesses use the charity con to sell products. was looking for a toys for tots box to put some toys in but haven't seen one around the places i have been. i feel really bad ,but i will make it up to st. jude this year for failing the kids. i have this thing that every kid should have a teddy bear. i still have my wheels turning for this christmas. bill :depressed: :) "

okay i have an idea. i am spread awful thin this year putting on and attending meets. i have my st.charles meet in may, dons maintenance day in june, i'm heading up the committee for the international meet in august, i'm going to vogel a couple of weeks after that, and finally the st. jude run in nov. how about if all the people that attend the st. jude get together collect teddy bears from their area, as many as they think they can fit on their bike and bring them to st. jude for christmas next year. kids should get a teddy bear for christmas. we could hit up stores and see if they would like to donate a teddy bear, or each member could buy one. whats everyone think. we could come up with a name for the run, like

"run with the bears for st. jude". i would be glad to help get it together. we could even expand the st. jude ride to two days so people could come farther and rest up before the ride back. have a host motel available to hang out at. lewis, brad , and gunboat, what would you think of that. it would be the last big hoorah of the year. bill :2133:

Whether you go just after the new year or next Christmas, I won't be able to attend but would like to chance to donate the purchase price of a bear.

Gunboat, do you have paypal and the cost?

bump, for run with the bears for st. jude. okay folks we need some feed back on this one. this seems to have become the main charity on this group, and it is a good one. if you have never been to st. jude it is a very heart warming place to visit. these kids are innocent victims. bill

Bill,

I like the idea of collecting teddy bears thru the year, and bringing them a truck load next year! I would be happy to collect the bears from this part of the country! But, then again....by next Christmas we may be in a much warmer climate:whistling: I would still collect bears for St. Judes!

Im in for anything to do with St. Jude. Sounds good to me Bill, but dont know if you noticed but next year the ride will be in Sept, or maybe early Oct.........before it gets too cool to ride. The 2 day event is good for me, you and I did that this year anyway so nothing too it for us...........Maybe we can set up people in different areas to collect teddy bears from those that wont be able to make the run and take them for them..........Looking forward to this...........we could also start collecting them at the meet and eats that go on all the time..............just a thought.

lewis, looks like we have a plan in the works. sorry i had the wrong month nov. just popped in my head. :sign brain fart: does everyone agree on "run with the bears for st. jude" for the name? bill :2133:

Just so long as no real bears allowed........:rotf::rotf:

I like it, has a nice ring to it.......If all goes well some of us will be caging it in vans to haul all the teddy's. My van will be available for it.......I can fit several hundred in there..........This could be really big...........Bears for the Kids, and funds in memory of Mean Dog...........doesnt get any better than that. I will have my van at Vogel so I can tote a lot of bears home in that. I would hate to miss riding my bike there, but for the kids I will do it.......

Bill, the teddy bear run is your idea, and we can make it happen, this group here is fantastic, so dont underplay your role here,

WE CAN DO IT!!!!

okay, since this is dragon riders thing, we need his approval. lewis does run with the bears for st. jude sound okay with you? bill :)

hi guys and gals

ok everyone just a quick up date, on just one t-bear site. here is their site,

www.msteddybear.com. if you look around their web page you will see differnet sizes & different prices.( the bigger the bear the more they cost, which is the case of all the web sites i checked so far this morning.)

the msteddybear.com site offers personalized bears for a few extra bucks and wholesale bears in different sizes.

there used to be a big party supply store off of downtown houston & l-10. that also used to carry t-bears. i will go by there and see if they still sell them, and report back to you all. is a 12'' bear to small? how about a 18''-20" or a 24'' bear be better. hope this helps, just throwing out some stuff on short notice. looks like we'll have plenty on time to look around.

there is one thing we have to check on first. seems like on the first st. jude run we had a list of gifts we could bring. if i remember right they did'nt want stuffed animals. cuz they had so many given to them. i may be wrong on this. since this is for christmas it is a different situation. they may have a limit on the number they can handle. we need to check on this. i was thinking if everyone brought a bear or two from there area they would all be a little different. i would say max size around 18 inches. we should try to stay in a size range so all the kids get something pretty equal, but different looking. this sounds like it's going to be alot of fun. bill :2133:

lewis, could you check with st.jude on the teddybear for christmas idea. to make sure they approve it, and see how many bears they could handle. no telling how many donations they receive from other groups at christmas time, and i imagine teddy bears are a popular item people donate. sure hate to show up with a truck load of bears and no place to put them. lol. i hope it is okay with them cuz i'm really getting excited about this. bill

Fairly new so don't know how much say I've got here. Since y'all seem to have adopted St. Jude's and this is the second running of the bears/ bear run (?) why not make it an annual event, have PB&J design a logo (if he would) and give/sell stickers/patches to donors/participants.

Another thought, if bears can be purchased wholesale as suggested by Gunboat, can they be shipped directly to St. Jude and a delegation present a "gift certificate" to them around the time of delivery along with a token number of bears. This would eliminate storing and toting these things all over the place

Barend,

Never worry about how much say you have here, you have as much as any of us. It's good to see you bringing forth your ideas, it can only enhance our site. This actually is the 1st time that the bears have been attempted on the site, Bill has donated privately in the past.

I believe our best bet is to see what Lewis finds out about donating Bears. Once we get St. Judes blessings then we can see how to proceeed. As always thank you for your input :happy34:

I will call St. Jude and check on it, but one thing we want to make sure is that if we are able to do the bears, they must be hypo-allergenic..........these kids have very little resistance to infection, that is why they recommended against stuffed animals. But being as this will be for Christmas, it might be allowed. I will try to find something out by the first of the year. Thanks to everyone for wanting to participate...........We will follow St Jude's reccomendation on what to bring..........they are a great organization and have the kids best interest in mind. So dont go out and buy any bears just yet.................:hurts:
