Yammer Dan Posted December 22, 2008 #1 Posted December 22, 2008 One thing I don't have in my room. The chrome edges that go right below the mirrors. Trying to figure out way to cut these out of good chrome tape. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I have one set on Black Beauty, wonder if I could pull them and trace them some how? This is the spot on the farings that is first to catch anything and is first spot to make contact if you lay it down. As I did first day I owned "Ugly" Didn't make it out of the town where I bought her. Hadn't been on a Venture in a while and put my foot down in a big pool of oil.You know the rest. And this bike had never been dropped!! Is there anywhere you can still get these things??
MasterGuns Posted December 22, 2008 #2 Posted December 22, 2008 I know exactly the item your looking for. I looked for three years and never could find them. I do remember a new set on Ebay about a year back that sold for 120.00. I finally gave up all together and bought a Harley. Parts for HDs are everywhere if you have the bucks. Masterguns
rod Posted December 22, 2008 #3 Posted December 22, 2008 I am not sure of the part you need; but to make a copy could you make a "rubbing" of the part rather than having to remove it? Then you could cut a template for the chrome tape. Rod

If you figure out a way to copy your existing set on BLack Beauty to a cardboard template I wonder if you could send me a copy of the edges. I know a guy that does metal work that might make them for me depending on how difficult it is. Then I just gotta find a good chromer as there isnt any in town any more. Brian
Yammer Dan Posted December 22, 2008 Author #5 Posted December 22, 2008 Good Ideas. I'll try to copy them on the bike. The chrome tape I have really looks good and might be able to fold it to cover edge?
Dragonslayer Posted December 22, 2008 #6 Posted December 22, 2008 I've seen them on bikes but have never found a place to buy them or found them on ebay. I bet if you could produce them there would be a pretty good market for them. I'd buy a set.

bongobobny Posted December 22, 2008 #8 Posted December 22, 2008 I made mine out of those plastic adhesive chrome stickey on thingies. I used the real wide stuff and then edges it with the real thin stuff. Even got fancy with the stuff and used a piece of the medium wide and went down the edge of the fairing to the back. Gotta redo them as I really scraped up the one side this summer when I dropped it at the Biltmore...

MikeM8560 Posted December 23, 2008 #11 Posted December 23, 2008 Hey Bongo, got and photos of those? Yes Id like to see that also Bob!
Yammer Dan Posted December 24, 2008 Author #13 Posted December 24, 2008 That would do it. I only need to cover upper part. What sticky on things are these??
bongobobny Posted December 24, 2008 #14 Posted December 24, 2008 3M adhesive I believe. Just clean the surface with alcohol prior to installing. Also, pre-bend the wide strip to shape before installing to get it to stay in place. I get my chrome from either Auto Zone or Pep Boys. It comes in rolls and depending on the size is usually $15 - $25 per roll.

Masterguns I remember that auction. Earlier this year and it was only for the right side NOS. Hess4less had it. He also had a front right upper fairing with one on it. The '91 was dropped on the right side and the cover was never replaced so I have a good left, but no right. I thought cool!! and put a rediculously... for me... high snipe bid on it because I really needed it, and they were rarer than chicken lips. No one else would be so foolish... Yeah...Sure!! I was outsniped by a bidder in Europe that goes by the Ebay name of Hellslaus. I've run into this guy before on Ebay. If the item is NOS he'll go to the moon to own it. I don't think he needs the stuff, but is stockpiling. So Dan, if you ever get anything made, I'd be interested too. And BTW the attachment tape can usually be found at an auto paint supplier. I bought a roll of the stuff, and it's very good.
