V7Goose Posted December 21, 2008 #1 Posted December 21, 2008 (edited) Just found a very economical multimeter with tachometer that some of you may be interested in for work on your bikes - it's from Harbor Freight, item 95670, and the price through 12/26/08 is $24.99 (normally $34.99). Here is a link to the item for more info, but the price is in the current retail flyer. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95670 Goose Edited December 21, 2008 by V7Goose fixed link
MiCarl Posted December 21, 2008 #2 Posted December 21, 2008 I think this is the link: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95670
V7Goose Posted December 21, 2008 Author #3 Posted December 21, 2008 Yup, that was the correct link - not sure why my post wasn't updated correctly the first time I tried to fix it - It showed the new link, but still took us to the bad one! I had to first delete the bad link, then go to a new line and paste the new one to get it fixed. I guess that will teach me to not test a link when I post it, huh? Thanx again for the update. Goose
usnmustang Posted December 21, 2008 #4 Posted December 21, 2008 Very cool, thanks for the heads up. I was going to head out for a quick ride today, looks like I may have to make a stop.
Sling Posted December 21, 2008 #5 Posted December 21, 2008 I've got a H.F. near me I think I'll go over and check it out I can use one! Thanks
BigBoyinMS Posted December 21, 2008 #6 Posted December 21, 2008 Hope it works for you guys. I bought one a few months ago and couldn't get it to read the same RPM twice. At idle, got everything from 5000 to 12000.
V7Goose Posted December 25, 2008 Author #7 Posted December 25, 2008 I stopped by and looked at this unit today - don't need it, but a man can't have too many neat tools, ya know? Anyway, I was a little disappointed. First problem is that it does not have a setting for a 2 cylinder engine (which is what we would need to get an accurate reading on a Venture). It has 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 cyl settings, but not 2, so you would have to use the 4 cyl and double the reading. If I didn't already have a good shop tach for a two cylinder engine, I probably would have tried it. I did like the soft rubber slip-on case that would protect it in the typical garage environment. I can't say how well it might work first hand, since I have never tried it, Just wanted to share a bit more info. Goose
