Has anyone on here ever had a set of wheels powdercoated? if so are there any problems that I need to be aware of? Wheel weights and such? Don't know if I will have this done, any ideas about the price?

A guy in our MC Club just had a set done for his son's bike. Heavy $$$ he said. The wheels were both spoked so maybe that's what drove up the price. Oh yeah they were done in two-tone paint as well.

I will do some checking, I am going to lower my bike and shorten the kickstand then have the kickstand powder coated black so the weld is not noticable. I will ask about wheels when I talk to the powdercoat guy.

I had a bicycle frame powdercoated.

It actually was much cheaper than having it painted.

The powercoating is much tougher than regular paint as well.

From what I can remember, the only downside is that the colors are limited.

Last year I had a pair of 7 spoke wheels powdered. $120 for both. Single color. Strip EVERYTHING off. Bearings, seals, weights, valve stems, etc. If you can get them blasted first, it brings cost down a little. Today there are virtually endless colors and combinations available. Even candies and pearls and textures. Powder is a LOT better than just paint. Do it and you won't be sorry.

Two tone paint is probably what drove up the price. They had to go through the entire procedure twice.
