BIG TOM Posted December 17, 2008 #1 Posted December 17, 2008 I know this is a motorcycle forum, but i couldn't resist sharing this...as some of you know taters and myself are tradititional archers..my club in fact hosts the largest tradititional shoot in the northeast each august with about 500 campers staying on our grounds for the four day event. (which i am chairing this year)..but thats another story..in august i contracted with the allegheny mountain bow company to build a bow for taters..problem is taters is a zebra freek and her arrows i make for her have to resemble a zebra pattern along with her quiver, armguard ,shooting glove, bow case etc,etc.... Can't buy a bow that resembles a zebra...check out the pics....its on its way just in time for christmas..she's gonna wet herself...everyone told her it couldent be done....
SilvrT Posted December 17, 2008 #2 Posted December 17, 2008 hey..that's cool ... when I was a kid I was into bows and arrows but things were so much different then ... did they use "zebra wood"??? (just kiddin)
Sleeperhawk Posted December 17, 2008 #3 Posted December 17, 2008 Ummm, she will now know what her present is after seeing these photos. Nice bow like the pattern.
BIG TOM Posted December 17, 2008 Author #4 Posted December 17, 2008 Ummm, she will now know what her present is after seeing these photos. Nice bow like the pattern. shes very seldom on here..usally looks over my shoulder when i'm on...i can avoid this post when shes near..not a problem...
eazyduzzit Posted December 17, 2008 #5 Posted December 17, 2008 That's a nice looking bow. I'm a woodworker who used to shoot what I call a recurve bow. I guess you call it a traditional bow. I've always wanted to make myself a bow, but never took the time to learn exactly how they're made. I may still do it one of these days.
SaltyDawg Posted December 17, 2008 #6 Posted December 17, 2008 Very nice recurve. It's been a long time since I shot one. I prefer them over compound bows any day. What's the draw?
rod Posted December 18, 2008 #7 Posted December 18, 2008 That looks nice!!! My first bow was a #45 fiberglass Bear recurved. I took many rabbits, some quail and coyotes with it. My second bow was a long bow made from lemon wood that I made in shop in the 7th grade, the only thing it killed was targets. I picked up a Browning recurved in a trade in High School that I used to deplete the wild dog and coyote population on the ranch I worked at. My first compound (Bear LTD). I got at my first duty station in the USAF and got lots of deer with it, lost that in a divorce. Right now I have a Bear Grizzly II hanging on a nice whitetail rack on the wall but have not shot it for years. Wish that bow was for me. Rod
PBJ Posted December 18, 2008 #8 Posted December 18, 2008 Zebra???? I thought you told me she was into shoes???? Does she have Zebra shoes too?
BIG TOM Posted December 18, 2008 Author #9 Posted December 18, 2008 Zebra???? I thought you told me she was into shoes???? Does she have Zebra shoes too? not just shoes...i'll stop there:rotf:
Carbon_One Posted December 18, 2008 #11 Posted December 18, 2008 While I'm not of the stick & string persuasion, I am a long time archer and do appreciate finely crafted wood bows and those who can shoot them proficently. Nice job there Tom. Larry
Squidley Posted December 18, 2008 #12 Posted December 18, 2008 Thats is a very nice recurve, I appreciate all of the hand crafted bows, shot for many years and enjoyed every minute of it
Freebird Posted December 18, 2008 #13 Posted December 18, 2008 Beautiful work on the bow. I've shot a little bit but not much. When I was a kid, I lived two doors down from a guy named Hardy Ward. He was World Outdoor Archery Champion in 1969. There was an elementary school about a half block away and I used to watch him practice there in the afternoons. It was amazing to watch him shoot.
BEER30 Posted December 18, 2008 #14 Posted December 18, 2008 That is a beautiful work of art . Reminds me of the Black Widow bow I used to have before I got my Matthews Z-Light compound . I haven't slung a stick in a few years now , especially after I got the scoot , LOL ! My brother-in-law's brother makes traditional long bows . He also makes his own arrow shafts , strikes his own arrowheads and uses wild turkey feathers for fletchings from the turkeys he has harvested himself . BEER30

BEER30 i'm planning on doing the same thing, gene, as soon as time allows. i have located a nice stand of "osage orange" trees, with a few potential "self bows", growing in the mix. the flint knapping is getting better, since i learned how NOT TO BLEED, so much! lol oh sorry for the hijack , Tom, that is a very fine looking recurve. i too would like to know what the draw weight is . just jt:backinmyday:
