Silver Bullet Posted December 17, 2008 #1 Posted December 17, 2008 IS THERE ANY MOD TO STOCK AIR BOXS THAT WILL HELP OUR 2ND GENS.?
Monsta Posted December 19, 2008 #2 Posted December 19, 2008 Don't know if it helps but the previous owner of mine made in the intake holes larger using a Dremel tool.
JerryK Posted December 22, 2008 #3 Posted December 22, 2008 I don't have the pics any more but Biker Dick from Columbus, Ohio had them on Star touring site if someone who belongs wants to take a look. It showed how to modify and did make a big improvement. I also added K&N filters........these mods were on my 2000 Venture that was totaled and I didn't get the air boxes or K&N's because the left one was killed in the crash. The mod really opened them up to the shape of the air deflecter and they still didn't pull water or any junk in.....but it did use a lot more filter area that you could read with the dirt tracks on the K&N's.....Glad you reminded me.....something that needs done while this Ohio weather sucks! M61A1MECH Posted December 23, 2008 #4 Posted December 23, 2008 I just did the air box mod on mine today, did not take any pics, but here is one from the STAR web site. I have not taken it out for a test yet. http://www.startouring.org/forum/thumb.aspx?a=2393&ImageID=2185
SilvrT Posted December 23, 2008 #5 Posted December 23, 2008 I just did the air box mod on mine today, did not take any pics, but here is one from the STAR web site. I have not taken it out for a test yet. http://www.startouring.org/forum/thumb.aspx?a=2393&ImageID=2185 can't seem to open the pic for better viewing ... and could you explain what specifically was done or maybe a link to the STAR web page that explains....
M61A1MECH Posted December 23, 2008 #6 Posted December 23, 2008 (edited) It will not do any good to link to STAR web site, if you are not a member you cannot view the forums. If I can figure out how to down size the photo I will post it so it can be opened. or try this link http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/airboxmod.jpg Here is a blurb from the tech section of the VENTURERS web site; http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002012&id=211 Air Inlet Hole At the front of the air filter housing, where the air enters, is a 1-1/2" hole behind the D shaped cover. The engine needs air, so I got a Dremmel tool and cut out the opening to match the D shaped cover leaving a small lip for support. It makes a big difference. The small hole from the factory is there to keep the noise level down. I heard no increase in noise, just more power. I did not rejet the carbs or install different mufflers. Yamaha spent millions of dollars in time and R&D to make it run the way it is. This just makes it a little better. Edited December 23, 2008 by M61A1MECH add link to photobucket
N3FOL Posted December 23, 2008 #7 Posted December 23, 2008 Looks like you guys want to go faster. My Venture already feels like a jet...with the mod the Venture might go faster than the speed of sound.

rjmalizia Posted December 29, 2008 #10 Posted December 29, 2008 This is what i've done. i modified the air box such that i enlarged the intake hole, but no bigger than that of the air filter intake (NOT THE BIG FOOT METHOD), removed the airbox air dam and replaced the oem filter with a K&N. Verdict: I really can't say that it made any difference. Ron
