DragonRider Posted December 14, 2008 #2 Posted December 14, 2008 Tom, we were just down there before Thanksgiving, most of the interstates have been resurfaced........I-12 is much better than it was when we lived down there, I-10 is better in some spots, but with the type of ground the have in south La......the roads just dont last as long there as elsewhere..........I would use 12 if you dont need to pass through NO..............Merry Christmas. it looks like i will have to ride home to Fl. Christmas , I-10 and I-12 used to be real bad through La. , the last time i drove though there was 1999 , how bad are the roads now ? Thom
Redneck Posted December 14, 2008 #3 Posted December 14, 2008 Its been a couple of years sense I have been across there but at that time the shock absorber dealers were very wealthy.
Tom Posted December 15, 2008 #4 Posted December 15, 2008 Thom,I just got back from Robert , La,off I 12 and the roads are alot better..A little construction in ,or just east of Beaumont, other than that construction on the bypass in Lake Charles,La. Tom
Squidley Posted December 15, 2008 #5 Posted December 15, 2008 Thom, We took I-10 from NOLA to Houston and back to Baton Rouge. The road wasn't bad if you are in a car, but we all know that my bike didn't like that stretch before Baton Rouge If you in the cage you should be just fine, if your on a bike, WATCH those damn reflectors as I'm sure thats what took our rear tire out
Thom Posted December 15, 2008 Author #6 Posted December 15, 2008 i am glad to here about I 12 , i was worried , next ? am i too old to iron butt it ? i was thinking about flying out there but i will be driving back with my truck and trailer and the truck is not dependable , it would be nice to have the bike with me , i hate walking . Give me a call when you come thru and meet up for coffee. Tom, we were just down there before Thanksgiving, most of the interstates have been resurfaced........I-12 is much better than it was when we lived down there, I-10 is better in some spots, but with the type of ground the have in south La......the roads just dont last as long there as elsewhere..........I would use 12 if you dont need to pass through NO..............Merry Christmas. And you didn't call.
Dano Posted December 15, 2008 #8 Posted December 15, 2008 And you didn't call. Hell, I didn't call either, and I was just thru there Friday! Although it was a 40 hour turn around with just enuff time to sleep, get the job done and head home! Dan
TEW47 Posted December 15, 2008 #9 Posted December 15, 2008 I live in Mobile and you will going by about 20 miles from my house. I you have time give me a call too and I will meet you for coffee. I will be having knee sugery on the 19th and won't be out and about for a few days. Be careful approching the I10 tunel, stay in the left lane because of merging traffic, sharp curve to the right. tew47
brscooter Posted December 15, 2008 #10 Posted December 15, 2008 Squidley quit putting it on Baton Rouge, it didn't even happen in this parish. Give credit where credit is due. Baton Rouge is is East Baton Rouge Parish and I think you were even west of West Baton Rouge Parish. Thom I live in Baton Roge a couple miles from the 10/12 split and it is not too bad through here but they run radar on it a lot. Just go through at night or in morning or mid day. If you pass through in evening rush hour you will back up for at least an hour until you are east of Denham Spring. Also in Denham Springs they have a van that clocks speeders and sends out tickets. I haven't seen it yet but in the paper they said they would use it on the slab. I used to work highway interdiction for 2 years on the interstate and knew every inch of it to hunt rabbits at night and to relieve myself but they have cameras on it every few miles now. If you need help going thru here my cell in 225-413-0885 or if you just want to meet. Give me a short warning and I can meet anywhere along the slab. Lyle

Lyle....all I know is that we were taken to Baton Rouge Hospital and it didn't take us an hour to get there

Venturous Randy Posted December 15, 2008 #13 Posted December 15, 2008 i am glad to here about I 12 , i was worried , next ? am i too old to iron butt it ? . Thom You might be ok if you do not have to go around any curves. We know how you are with curves as Laura and I believe you are curve challenged. RandyA
jvbailey3 Posted December 15, 2008 #14 Posted December 15, 2008 I-10/I-12 corridor in Baton Rouge is a disaster during rush hour. Also, be careful with the trip back, believe there is still grating down on the I-10 over Lake Ponchatrain. Atleast it was there a month ago. Worse MC accident I ever saw the remnants of was a guy that laid his bike down on grating. Otherwise, I-10/1I-12 is in pretty good shape for a change.
