Voyager disappointment

Saw the new Voyagers at the Long Beach show this weekend.... Not what I expected at all. The bags look strangely separated from the bike when viewed from the front. No intercom or connections visible. The steering is heavier than Venture, my wife can get the Venture and virtually all other bikes off the stand but couldn't get the Voyager up.....

Too many odd curves in that fairing. Also tank hardware kind of odd and chintzy.

In a way it's a relief, I won't be lusting for one. Seats comfortably but a bit tight. Good looking from back.

There are only apparently 3 available in Canada, the head honchos in Japan has not yet even made up its pricing decision, and they have a number of enhancements (new hinges for the trunk, self-canceling signals, etc) already planned before it goes into production.

I really like what I've seen of the bike so far. And if it is big and heavy enough a woman can't get it off the side stand it may be big enough for me.

I can't wait to see one in person, once I get to visit a local bike show coming up soon in our local area. The Voyager has a bigger engine, but does not have all the accessories that I want. The Venture still has a lot more to offer.

The one thing that I like about the Voyager is something that Yamaha BETTER address if it comes out with another Venture is the charging system. The Voyager has a 47 amp system if I'm not mistaken. The next bike I buy will be able to power everything I want to wear and light up and not break a sweat.

I wouldn't say it's big and heavy, I would say smaller than Venture and more awkward. The frame mounted fairing gives false hopes of nimbleness.

Maybe the good thing about the Voyager is that Yamaha will feel compelled to upgrade the Venture.

That's what I was hoping for too but the Venture is superior as it stands....So I think we won't be getting much.

International Motorcycle Show here in San Mateo then and will take a look. It looked pretty good when I saw the pictures a couple of weeks ago, but the way it's being decribed here, it sounds like a disappointment. Approaching 100k on my 99 RSV, and yes; it would be nice to see them come up with what we're looking for in a new RSV, but this bike was made to sell at an inexpensive price, and that's what keeps this bike going. I don't want to move up into the Harley price of a bike and that soots me. For a car, they didn't change the Bug much in 20 years cause they knew they had something; the RSV follows the same suit in my opinion.

Seriously...what does the Venture offer that makes you make that statement? (other than 4 cylinders and speakers at the rear seat) ? -OR ... are you referring to aftermarket stuff???

The V4 motor puts the Venture way ahead of any VTwin. I can't believe I'm saying this. Years ago I was completely branded by the American V twin, and was one of those that said if I can't ride American I would rather not ride. :-)

As a recent RSV rider, I tested the lot. Harley = Expensive & too much vibration. Vision = Expensive, too cumbersome & limited storage. BMW = Expensive & way too tall for me. Goldwing = Expensive. As you can see the common thread is $$, if price wasn't a factor I'd be happy. But being frugal means paying for what you need. RSV is the best rounded choice. There will always be something you may want to add or change, but remember the day you rode your new RSV home, I'm sure no one on this site was thinking they made the wrong decision.
