Sylvester Posted February 22, 2009 #26 Posted February 22, 2009 The cassette MP3 player is proof of Yamaha's genius in keeping the cassette player a decade into the new millenium. I can see the gen 3 Venture still with a cassette player. A modern revival.
Bummer Posted February 22, 2009 #27 Posted February 22, 2009 My iAUDIO M3 has a 30 gig hard drive. It contains over 4000 songs with room to spare. I ran audio and power wires into the trunk. The audio wire is plugged into the AUX port inside the fairing. I have a switch on the clutch reservoir that allows me to turn its charger on and off. I plug the player in, start a playlist, then drop it into the mesh pouch in the trunk. I'm not particularly concerned about the hard drive. The player is vertical and loose. Not a lot of vibration actually gets transferred to the drive, and the big bumps are generally in the same direction the drive pickup arm moves. As a result the heads don't tend to whack the platters, which is what usually kills the drives. It just skips once in a while. This one has gone at least twenty thousand miles, including Pike's Peak with it's occasional washboard sections. On top of that Irene uses it to play a looped thunderstorm all night long. (Helps her sleep.) It's been running 80% of the time for the last three years. If it dies now I'll get another one as much like it as I can. Hard drive and all.
