MasterGuns Posted December 6, 2008 #1 Posted December 6, 2008 (edited) If I were to purchase front and rear Dunlop Elite II RWL tires, will I be getting an older tire? What I mean is now that Dunlop is making the Elite IIIs, have the Elite IIs just been sitting around someones warehouse for a very long time just waiting for some unaware person to take them off their hands. I really like RWLs and since RWLs are not available in the Elite IIIs, I am almost forced to buy Elite IIs. Too bad Avon doesn't make RWL in any on their tire models. So, I guess my question is if I buy Elite IIs am I buying new tires that are no longer made and are already very aged when I get them new? Any advise? Skid Posted December 6, 2008 #2 Posted December 6, 2008 I feel the same way. I like the out-lines raised white letters too, but they are not offered on the Elite III's. I would be afraid to purchase another set of Elite II's. I would think they would go bad setting around.....
saddlebum Posted December 6, 2008 #3 Posted December 6, 2008 As long as they have been stored inside in a cool area and not exposed the sun or high heat temperatures I cant see there being any problem with using them.
mattevans Posted December 9, 2008 #4 Posted December 9, 2008 I agree with saddlebum on this one. My bike is still running an elite II on the front and its in great shape. I was told that they havent made the tire for sometime ,the tire was on my bike when i bought it about a year ago. matt
ibents Posted December 9, 2008 #5 Posted December 9, 2008 These web sites may give you some idea. The first is for bikes and the second for cars. Hope this helps. Ian http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Tires.html http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11
skydoc_17 Posted December 10, 2008 #6 Posted December 10, 2008 I have a set of Dunlop Elite II's on my 87'VR that I bought in March of 2008 With 4500 miles on them so far and they still look like brand new. The date code on them is june of 2005. I was assured that all of the tires sold by this online tire outlet are stored properly. So far so good. I just thought I would throw this in. Ride Safe, Earl

Ride Safe, Earl Well SkyDoc, After calling 22 internet m/c tire outlets, I was finally able to locate a front from one vendor and the rear from another. I paid out the nose for these tires and I think I found the absolute last MR90 Elite II RWL (front) in the entire country. Anyway, I too, was assured they were stored properly. I just love the look of the RWL'ing as I think it is very stylish. I had excellent results with these Dunlops back in the late 80's and early 90's and can't wait to get this things mounted on my 88. I currently am running Avons front and rear and I find them just too noisy when leaning. Thanks
skydoc_17 Posted December 10, 2008 #8 Posted December 10, 2008 Hey Herb, I just looked at the pic of your scoot and WOW! Nice Bike. On a sidenote, I bought an 86' VR on Sunday and it has a brand new Dunlop E III on the front and beside the fact that it doesn't have the raised white lettering on the sidewall, (I really like the white lettering!) it is very quiet and might handle even better than the E II's on my 87' VR. Good score on the last of the E II's, I will miss those tires when mine finally wear out! Will try the E III's for the next set I guess. Good luck with your new set of tires! Ride Safe, Earl.
lonestarmedic Posted December 10, 2008 #9 Posted December 10, 2008 Look very close at that Dunlop Elite 3 on the front. Last time I checked (in Sept of this year) Dunlop did not make an Elite 3 for the front of a 1st Generation. I hunted and even called Dunlop. The size is listed but they stated that there was NO production of that tire. So, you either have a unique tire, the incorrect size on the front, or possibly a rear tire mounted on the front. Hopefully others here can verify these facts for you. JB
