Rottdoglover Posted December 4, 2008 #1 Posted December 4, 2008 I've come up with both halves of a wooden coffin lid. I'm thinking about building a veneered plywood box to fit, and use as a trailer. It would be about 80" long and 26" wide and 18-24" deep. Better half thinks I've gone over to the dark side. I say it's just wood. I make a large wooden cross at Christmas, but nobody thinks i'm going to crucify anyone. So, I guess my question is, would a bike pulling a homemade casket style trailer be shunned or looked upon as a 'little wierd'. Or accepted as one who marches to their own drum. At least I don't have 'little voices' telling me to this. Opinions please. Thanks
flb_78 Posted December 4, 2008 #2 Posted December 4, 2008 You'd be a unique individual, just like everybody else. In Amarillo, there's a fella that'll pull ya in his trailer to your grave when you're dead and gone. He custom built a hearse trailer for his buddy. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n183/melandkeith/Sturgis%2007/coffin.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2098/1562327341_532a1227f9.jpg?v=0http://www.sweetdreamzcc.com/SDCCWeb/coffin2.jpghttp://www.madmyk.com/gallery/albums/Past_Photos_of_the_Week/07_06_Coffin_Trailer.jpg
Freebird Posted December 4, 2008 #3 Posted December 4, 2008 Yep...I saw a guy at Sturgis one year...camped at Glencoe...that had a full coffin on an axle complete with the lining and etc. He slept in it at night. Actually looked pretty comfortable.
eazyduzzit Posted December 4, 2008 #4 Posted December 4, 2008 Sounds like it would make a cool trailer. Go for it!
whozleft Posted December 4, 2008 #5 Posted December 4, 2008 Once at a Goldwing rally they had a light parade one evening. There was a guy who had a trailer made from a coffin. He had it painted black and had the POW/MIA ensignias on it. Also some words about remembering those who fought and died for our country. It was one of the most memorable things I had ever seen.
Eck Posted December 4, 2008 #6 Posted December 4, 2008 You can tell your wife.......YOUR NOT ALONE......... Here are others in your category......(see photos)......and links... http://yayyuh2.blogspot.com/2008/04/coffins-you-love-to-die-for-collection.html http://www.usatoday.com/news/offbeat/2008-05-04-beer-coffin_N.htm
Rottdoglover Posted December 5, 2008 Author #7 Posted December 5, 2008 Thanks all. I decided your right (really I'm blaming you all for this). Purchased a coffin (empty) today to make a trailer. Will try to post pics as I go. Now, to paint trailer to match 88 Blondie, or custom paint both to match? Decisions, decisions. Will it never end?
BOO Posted December 6, 2008 #8 Posted December 6, 2008 You guys are weird!!!!! Actually I use to frequent a bar that had a coffin up on a table and every once in a while some clown would climb in and lie down. In 1976 I had a new Ranchero and built a small tool box for the bed and it sort of looked like a coffin, I was kidded so much about it I finally took it out and burned it. Jerry
Chuckles Posted December 6, 2008 #9 Posted December 6, 2008 My brother-in-law pulled one in the late '60's all over the states and Mexico. Great conversation starter, and plenty of room for all he carried. Chuckles:12101:
waterbug Posted December 6, 2008 #10 Posted December 6, 2008 I like it!! I used to work with a guy who painted coffins and once he got his amount done he would get in a done one and go to sleep for the rest of the night.
Rottdoglover Posted December 6, 2008 Author #11 Posted December 6, 2008 We lost a friend a short while back but his kids sent him off in style. He always loved (and had several) '69 Camaro's. His casket was Hugger Orange with Z 28 stripes, scoops, and trim. Cragar wheel centers on all 4 corners. Outer door handles served their purpose. He would have been proud his kids are following in his steps. Gods speed (or at least Z-28's) to him.
KICKSHOT Posted December 6, 2008 #12 Posted December 6, 2008 My brothers coffin was pulled by a motorcycle. Quite a stir it was in our little home town. At least the people had some thing new to talk about for a while. Of course the club he rode with may have helped the people take notice. I say go for it. kickshot
