I am sure someone has run into this before. I am having an electrical issue. I added a new rear brake light that works fine. It works as a tail light and brake light. I solered all connectons and covered connections with tape heavily and buttoned it all back up under the rear tail light. I then did the mod on my mufflers after checking out the new light and with the switch on the tail light lit up and it worked well when braked were applied. I finished my muffler mod and fired up the bike (99rsv) and when I headed out the drive way I noticed that the speedo/turn signal and fuel lights no longer lit up on the dash. I do have headlights/running light taillights and brake lights. I do not see a listing under fuses that would point to the speedo/turnsignal fuel pump as a combo or point to something they would have in common other than they are all electrical. Remember the bike runs fine so the fuel pump is working as is the lights/radio just not the idiot lights for the neutral/turnsignals or the speedo/fuel indicator. Any idea what I did to cause this and how to track the issue down and fix it? I am going back out now to research fused but as I said I dont have anything that points t o what would be commom and still let bike operate.

It sounds like you blew a fuse on the bike.

You most likely had your key in the "on" position when checking which wire was which one in the tail light box..you may have blown a fuse when you were doing this.???:confused24:

Well I in fact had 2 blown fuses. I replaced both fuses. The main issue now seems to be that when I replace the TS fuse all is fine except I now dont have any brake lights.and the fuse blows ou again after a few minutes. I had brakes last night. I guess something is shorting out from when I buttoned it all up last night. I will go back and pull the rear light and review all the connections and see if I can find a place where a wire may be crossing etc. Is there a fuse for the brake lights? I cant find a reference for one so I am assuming it is on a circuit with something else. Looks like I will need to get back to it later today.

On a side note the muffler mod found on this site sounds fine without being noisy. Just enough noise to let me know I am on a motorcycle now. Thanks for the replies etc.

The brake light is on the Signal fuse. They do use a brake light relay but the power supply to it and the brake switches that trigger it are all powered from the Signal fuse.

I'd inspect the wiring again on the new light...usually the last thing altered is the first thing to check.

Try to check your ground wire...it may be shorting. As you stated before, double check the integrity of your solder connections and check your fuses. Good Luck.
