Rottdoglover Posted November 28, 2008 #1 Posted November 28, 2008 I am going to build my own trailer hitch. Can someone explain (or better-pictures) where to mount the hitch? Looks like the rear subframe for rear mounting point will work, but where should the front mounts be? Are the saddlebag mounting frames strong enough? Thanks
bryan52577 Posted November 28, 2008 #2 Posted November 28, 2008 Here is one maybe you can get ideas from?
MiCarl Posted November 28, 2008 #3 Posted November 28, 2008 My 89 has a receiver type hitch. The front attaches with the muffler mount bolt (between the muffler and frame). The rear hangs from the saddle bag frame. If you have a MKI the saddle bag frame will be different. I'll be tearing apart after Christmas for paint. I can get you detailed photos and dimensions then if you like.

Thanks I have a dimensional drawing of the hitch Bryan posted, if you want a copy I can send you one. May take a day or so to get back to you, but if interested send me a email. Those hitches were sold in Quebec. A U-bolt and a clamp mounts this one. Brad
greg_in_london Posted November 29, 2008 #5 Posted November 29, 2008 Best to attach a sidecar and fix the trailer hitch to that.
