donrigney Posted November 26, 2008 #1 Posted November 26, 2008 New to this bike. Just acquired. Been setting for 6 months. Bike won't start normally. Will start and run briefly with starting fluid in carb intakes. Doesn't have 12v. to fuel pump with key in "on" position. Don't have owner's manual, shop manual, etc....nothing to work with. Any troubleshooting tips appreciated. Any leads on wiring diagrams. Location of fuel pump fuze, etc. would be very helpful. tks
MiCarl Posted November 26, 2008 #2 Posted November 26, 2008 Welcome aboard. Here is the link to your service manual (courtesy of Juggler): http://labs.trunkful.com/8385servicemanual.pdf
Ga Dawg Posted November 26, 2008 #3 Posted November 26, 2008 OK. Be careful with that starting fluid. Bad things will happen to your valves using that stuff. If you look under the cover where you put your fuel in you will see your fuse bank there. Look at all of them to see if a fuse is blown. If blown replace with correct amp fuse and try it. If that blows the fuel pump is probably blown and needs replaceing . Of course check for any short on wire first. If you go to the main forum page and scroll down to tech. library find the tab for 1st. gen. manual and there you will find all the stuff there is on the scoot. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Oh yea ,get some sea foam in there asap. Scott

This is a safety feature so that if the bike goes down the fuel pump doesn't continue pumping fuel out to catch on fire. When turning the key to "on" you should hear three short clicks and then quiet. To pump fuel up to empty float bowls you need to turn key on and off a number of times. Dick

I find it easier to just flip the emergency off button several times after turning the ignition on and you may hear the fuel pump click better. Also, make sure the emergency off button is in the correct position and is not gummed up. RandyA
donrigney Posted November 27, 2008 Author #6 Posted November 27, 2008 Tks to Dick for the solution. After 'numerous' cycles of the switch apparently managed to get gas up to the carbs and finally got it started. Couldn't hear the pump running at all. Could only detect it working by holding my hand on the pump while turning the key on and off and could feel the vibration. Also tks to mbrood for the link to the owner's manual. Finally getting somewhere. Has anybody had trouble downloading the service manual from the link provided in this thread? I get about 88 mb of the download then nothing.
