waterbug Posted November 24, 2008 #1 Posted November 24, 2008 I had my 08 carbs worked on as they were leaking, and since then it idles very slow and has died on me a few times. Do I have to tear a bunch of stuff down to get to the idle screws and when I do this do they need synch again? and not ever seeing the carbs on one of these what ones am I looking for? thanks:crying:
GeorgeS Posted November 24, 2008 #2 Posted November 24, 2008 Just find the " Main Idle Adjust " Screw. Should be on Left, Fwd, Carb. DO NOT, mistake one of the " SYNC " Screws ( 1 on left side, and 2 on right side ) for the Single , Master Idle adjust.
MAINEAC Posted November 24, 2008 #3 Posted November 24, 2008 Mines on the right... and I can turn it with my fingers
KeithR Posted November 24, 2008 #4 Posted November 24, 2008 Have a look at this pic....not sure what year motor is out of. Keith
waterbug Posted November 24, 2008 Author #6 Posted November 24, 2008 Mine is a 08, is there a adjuster screw on both sides or just on the one? Thanks for the picture that helps alot.
Squeeze Posted November 24, 2008 #7 Posted November 24, 2008 Mine is a 08, is there a adjuster screw on both sides or just on the one? Thanks for the picture that helps alot. There can be only one central Adjuster Screw.
gibvel Posted November 24, 2008 #8 Posted November 24, 2008 Mine is a 08, is there a adjuster screw on both sides or just on the one? Thanks for the picture that helps alot. Just on one side. Sit on the bike... look down by your right thigh, pretty close to right under the very front of the seat/ rear of the tank. You will see a black "fluted" knob with a philips screwdriver slot in the middle. That's your adjuster.
waterbug Posted November 24, 2008 Author #9 Posted November 24, 2008 Thanks guys I knew if I asked here I would get someone to help and it turned out more than one. Thanks everyone now maybe I can get her to stop dieing on me when I stop.
N3FOL Posted November 25, 2008 #10 Posted November 25, 2008 A fellow member gave this information to me and I have used it a couple of times to adjust my idle at the recommended RPM. It is also a must have, if you plan to synch your carbs. http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/esi325.html
Mikey Posted November 27, 2008 #11 Posted November 27, 2008 Am I missing something here? Why are we talking about the owner having to work on a new bike that is still under warranty??? The new ones still have a 5 year warranty like my 99 don't they?
N3FOL Posted November 27, 2008 #12 Posted November 27, 2008 He may be a good DIY. He wanted to check things out as stated on his first post.
pegscraper Posted November 27, 2008 #13 Posted November 27, 2008 Because for simple maintenance, doing it yourself is much easier than dragging it to the dealer and wasting time waiting around, or having another ride so you can leave and then have to come back and pick it up, and all the hassling around. Do it yourself in a few minutes and be done with it.
Sleeperhawk Posted November 27, 2008 #14 Posted November 27, 2008 Because for simple maintenance, doing it yourself is much easier than dragging it to the dealer and wasting time waiting around, or having another ride so you can leave and then have to come back and pick it up, and all the hassling around. Do it yourself in a few minutes and be done with it. Plus most around here are charging $75 to $85 per hour if it not warranty work. No way, been learning how to do most things myself. Now if someone will just show me how to lube the throttle cables :whistling:

StarFan Posted March 10, 2009 #16 Posted March 10, 2009 I had my 08 carbs worked on as they were leaking, and since then it idles very slow and has died on me a few times. This tells me it is a must for you to come to Don´s Maintenance Day 6th. of June. Bring a list of "How To" and we will set you straight. You might even get some cheesecake from the ladies.
davecb Posted March 11, 2009 #17 Posted March 11, 2009 I think your carbs are not synced correctly.I can idle mine down to 500 RPM and it runs fine. However, I keep my idle at approximately 850 Rpm cause I worry about oil pressure. I do have a tach on my bike, so I know the idle speed....
waterbug Posted March 11, 2009 Author #18 Posted March 11, 2009 I dont have a tack on mine yet but sometime down the road I will get one. I did have the carbs done last fall and rode it about 1k miles maybe since then but thats gonna change as its above freezing here so I can ride. Yes so far I am going to Dons unless something unforseen happens. I plan on trying to learn alot from you guys even if mine doesnt need anything.
N3FOL Posted March 11, 2009 #19 Posted March 11, 2009 Get one of these...it will help you adjust the idle with confidence...http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/esi325.html
