paperboy Posted November 15, 2007 #26 Posted November 15, 2007 Mobil 1 is a synthetic oil and nowhere on the container does it say (energy conserving). It is one of the oldest and most reliable products out there. I didn't mean to ruffle anybody's feathers. Mobil 1 even markets a 15-50 motorcycle oil, of course it's 4 bucks a quart more. Smart marketing.
hig4s Posted November 15, 2007 #27 Posted November 15, 2007 Let's start by saying there is no such thing as oil that lubricates too well. Many very high performance engines come from the factory with synthetic oil: Corvettes, Porches, KTMs, Husqvarnas, Cagivas and on and on. Apparently it doesn't screw up their break in, why would it screw up any engine break in? Mobil 1 has many types, some energy conserving, some not. And since when do dealers know anything about engineering, most don't even know as much as the average enthusiast does about the products they sell. The only difference between modern dino oil and full synthetic is heat resistance, shear resistance, and longevity. So if you do not race, or do extended oil changes you don't need synthetic.
Guest cyote61 Posted November 15, 2007 #28 Posted November 15, 2007 I use Honda 50/50 synthetic blend with Molly.
tazmocycle Posted November 16, 2007 #29 Posted November 16, 2007 http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Motorcycle_Oil_FAQs.aspx#FAQs3 starrider05, glen fritzgarld, has use mobil 1 oil in his 96 royal and has over 155,000 miles on it and it'll run right beside any on the road today(his sonn has it now). he has'nt had any problems wiyh the bike. i've use it in mine, for 57,700 miles with no problems either. it's like seats and tires, everybody has their idea of whats best according to themselves and it's just natutal to try and help others out by telling them. to each his own!!
Guest KitCarson Posted November 16, 2007 #30 Posted November 16, 2007 I suppose I will behave this time and just put a common sense statement out here. If you change your oil and filter on a regular basis, I change it every 3000 miles, or maybe 3500 if I get lazy. Changed like this.........oil is oil is oil is oil. Filter is a filter is a filter.......honestly it is........!! The only reason I like to use a synthetic is because it does not with time over the years, gum up parts of the motor or cause the oil residue in all those tiny nooks and crannies. Regular oil does that as it cooks and breaks down....sny......seems to keep the motor clean......that is the reason I like to use it. Kit
