Reading the recent post about the Canyon area brought up a question for you guys.. A few years ago I was exploring the Black Hills of SD and stopped for lunch in a small town.. There were a couple hitch hiker backpacking hobos there who I got yappin with.. We got talking about how much fun exploring Ghost Towns is and they asked me if I had ever been tothe one just off 40 - I think they said west of Flagstaff - that no one has been able to figure out exactly where it came from.. Anyone know what, where, how to find it and the like on this?? Any other really cool out of the way Ghost Towns and the like you would be willing to share??? Planning another bike trip!!! Thanks for the help!! 'Puc

Thanks for the help!! 'Puc I'm not sure, but it sounds like you might be describing Oatman. Oatman is on Old Route 66, west of Kingman. A pretty neat old mining town with alot of history. To get there you head north of I-40 between Kingman and Needles Cal. at Golden Shores exit. Then north about 25 miles through the desert. Lots of burros, and a neat old hotel. The Oatman hotel is where Clark Gable and ......what's her name... (Garbo?) spent their honeymoon. Still open but OOOOLD. Great food and some stores for the tourists. I believe they have a website if ya want to check them out. DJ
cowpuc Posted November 20, 2008 Author #3 Posted November 20, 2008 Thanks for the reply Dan but actually that doesnt sound like it.. These hobos were saying that its right off 40,, down a couple unpaved roads but fairly close to the highway.. they also said that it is NOT occupied and that the historyof the town is acutally unknown... Thanks for the reply though and I DEFINITLY will check that out this coming year!!! 'Puc
rod Posted November 20, 2008 #4 Posted November 20, 2008 There are a lot of ghost towns in Az. I had some friends go looking for some one time and even with a map and directions they could not find them. You can check here: http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/az/az.html Most that I have seen can only be accessed by dirt bike or 4x4. Good luck with your hunt. Rod
