Guys, I know there is a lot of info on the site about the infamous "chirp" and the clutch basket changeout. What I wanted to do with this post is get some statistics to determine a percentage of success before I proceed to hassle the local dealer to change mine. Reason is, I can live with it the way it is and if all the I-basket will do for me (based on the odds) is to move the chirp/whine to a different RPM range, I won't bother.

So, using the above poll, I hope to arrive at some sort of decision.

If you choose Other, would you kindly elaborate.

Thanks for your input.

what Poll ?? :whistling::whistling:

Get yourself a Vmax or FJR Final Dive and be a happy Camper (i believe).

Edit ....

ok, the Poll is showing up now ....

Mine moved and I still don't like it. I have found it is easier to get rid of the chirp now if I ride what I call more aggressive by winding the engine more before shifting, by keeping the RPMs higher I have less instances of hearing the chirp. It is livable but not likable. Still the best Bike I have been on.

I went with Other.

I have not swapped out my clutch basket but considered it for months. I eventually leaned to ignore it and have forgotten about it for the most part.

I have not changed out the clutch basket. I have switched to synthetic oil, put on a set of Barons 4-2-4 pipes, and keep the RPMs high on all the gears. It all adds up to not hearing the whine/chirp and I can live with it.

The bike is too comfortable and runs too good to hold the whine/chirp against it.

I've found that if I wear a 3/4 helmet (covers ears), I don't notice the whine so much compared to wearing my usual 1/2 helmet (ears not covered). I don't plan on changing the exhaust for quite a while and I've changed to Amsoil synthetic which seemed to make a bit of difference. As mentioned, I can live with the whine as it now is but it would be nice to eliminate or reduce it. I also have the tunes on most of the time.

I had it bad (Chirp) on my 2005 RSTD. Dealer was patient with me and it took two swap outs but man what a difference. On mine it pretty much disapeared. There is hope...it's just a matter of getting the right basket in there.

Just buy an 08.

So far over 17000 miles, no whine or chirp :cool10:

I just bought this '06 ... I could have gotten an '08 for $15,900 but this '06 had only 1300 km's on it and I got it for $12,900. I wanted an RSMV and didn't like the grey color of the '08. From all I've read and heard, I'd say your one of the lucky ones that didn't get a "whiner".

I voted OTHER as I have not had the I basked installed.

Have you greased ALL of your splines with Honda Moly60 paste?

It took most of the whine out of my bike......

A little more was removed by using a small amount of Moly in a full synthetic gear lube in the rear end.

To see what I did read the thread HERE

DO NOT USE MOLY IN YOUR RSV or RSTD ENGINE OIL!!!!!!

good idea which I will do sometime over the winter; however, the whine I'm referring to does not come from the driveline but rather, the engine. It IS the infamous "chirp" ya'll talk about.

I do notice tho that the stock tires do produce a bit of a "howl"... no biggie tho..when the time comes I'll be mounting Avon's most likely.

I have changed the basket 3 times now and none have made any diffrence in the churp. the last one the dealer put in was supost to be an I basket but I did not see an I on it any where. I hope some one will note the # of the I basket so I can tell if it truley is a I basket. I got a H basket off ebay and installed it , but still has same churp...

I had quite a bit of noise in my bike, and was unable to tell exactly where it was coming from as all the parts are mechanically, which means acoustically, coupled.

The Moly60 paste took care of most of my bikes noise. It was easy to do, and was normal maintenance, but done a little early in the bikes life to extend the life of the drive shaft and connection parts.

I hope it extends the service life of the rear-end too...

you might be surprised!!!!! or not.

Please post your findings no matter how it comes out.
