BradT Posted November 17, 2008 #1 Posted November 17, 2008 I was looking for a pair of Chaps, but these do not have a belt. They have a loop that goes around your belt and may be called Leggings. Saw them for 200 bucks today and was thinking I could get them a little cheaper. Any suggestions where to find a pair ? Thanks Brad
philmartin Posted November 17, 2008 #2 Posted November 17, 2008 How about these... http://www.coloradochaps.com/original_chaps.html
CMIKE Posted November 17, 2008 #3 Posted November 17, 2008 I was in Gatlinburg Tenn last week and found a pair just like this for $109. http://www.openroadleatherandaccessories.com/product-2452.html Also this may be an option also. http://www.bikersden.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=1805 I have not delt with either of these vendors so I do not know how good or bad they may be. I never owned a pair of chaps before last week... Now both the wife and me have a set. I tried on several pair till I found this type. I wear a belt all the time anyway and this type seem easier to get on and off. At first I thought I may be sacraficing some of the protection but I am not sure. What do you more experienced guys think about the protection provided with this type?

GigaWhiskey Posted November 17, 2008 #5 Posted November 17, 2008 Mavrick wears some that come to the knee's. They look more comfortable than a full set of chaps.
Yamaman Posted November 17, 2008 #6 Posted November 17, 2008 Here's a web site I have found in my searches that has some very good prices. I haven't used them yet, so I can't say anything about the quality or value of the items, but there are lots of customer reviews on many of the products. I have been considering purchasing these chaps for myself: http://leatherup.com/p/Leather-Chaps--pants/Mens-Advanced-Dual-Comfort-System-Leather-Chaps/41311.html Anybody out there ever buy from this web site?
utadventure Posted November 17, 2008 #7 Posted November 17, 2008 Found some very reasonable prices from this company: http://www.jillianleather.com/ also try www.jilliandistributing.com Dave
RoadKill Posted November 17, 2008 #8 Posted November 17, 2008 Before i switched to Tourmaster riding gear I had moved from Chaps to leather overpants. I felt they provided better protection, just as easy on and off and a whole lot warmer. I think leather up has them. Jay

I have been considering purchasing these chaps for myself: http://leatherup.com/p/Leather-Chaps--pants/Mens-Advanced-Dual-Comfort-System-Leather-Chaps/41311.html Anybody out there ever buy from this web site? Got mine and my wifes from leather up - They have been very good to deal with. Fast shipping and accurate descriptions. I don't remember the model I have but they have a gusset in the back of the legs with a zipper which is necessary if I am wearing jeans. I do have large legs from years of football and sports if you have normal sized legs, shouldn't be a problem. My wifes are lined and the same "size" as mine(Only because we knew the lining would make the legs tight!) but I can't even get them on. They seem to have a knowledgable cust serv staff - The wife called them and asked about sizing before she bought and that is why she went with the larger size. Mine seem maybe just a little thin but I think they would be adequate in the event of a slide across the pavement - the wifes are pretty heavy duty. Hope this helps
Mavrick Posted November 17, 2008 #11 Posted November 17, 2008 Give Leather Legs a look......This is where I bought mine and I have been very pleased. Mavrick http://www.leatherlegs.net/llegpic2new.html
Marcarl Posted November 17, 2008 #12 Posted November 17, 2008 If you are interested in a little ride there is a place on Hwy 20, just the other side of Bismark that is reasonably priced and does custom work. Wizard765 was pleased with what he got. Maybe check it out.
Ponch Posted November 17, 2008 #13 Posted November 17, 2008 These snap around your belt. They come in insulated vinyl or leather. I like them. http://www.whitehorsepress.com/images/products/large/cpez.jpg http://www.whitehorsepress.com/product_info.php?products_id=5377
RedRider Posted November 17, 2008 #14 Posted November 17, 2008 I might suggest waiting for the Motorcycle Show to sample and review several selections. There are scheduled stops in Novi, MI, Cleveland, OH, and NY, NY. Suspect Novi or Cleveland would be easiest to get to. Linky: http://www.motorcycleshows.com/ RR
Wizard765 Posted November 17, 2008 #15 Posted November 17, 2008 The place in Bismark has a large selection with great prices. Like Carl said I am very happy with the pair I got. BUT I didn't see any in the style you are looking for. The place is expanding all the time and are bringing in new things on a regular basis so going to check it out would be fun. If they didn't have exactly what you wanted they could most likely find it for you and get it in. The guy is excellent to deal with. Wayne

Cerviperus Posted November 17, 2008 #17 Posted November 17, 2008 I keep thinking I'm going to try the knee-high type, or nylon. Every time I find some leather ones to try on, I can never find a comfortable fit. If they give me room to move, they're way too bulky and heavy. If I get them to where they feel like they're a good fit, my leg movement is so restricted I can't stand it. That's what's kept me from ordering any online, because I have no idea what size to order.
mountainhorsega Posted November 17, 2008 #18 Posted November 17, 2008 and talk to them if you really want to try some. They have been very helpful on the phone. Not trying to sway you away from the knee-highs.
lonestarmedic Posted November 17, 2008 #19 Posted November 17, 2008 1) make sure they fit with whatever you normally have on 2) get good zippers and snaps. Velcro is not good when dirty or wet 3) think about a stretch area at the thigh for adjustment 4) Remember chaps are an additional layer You need to wear something underneath:yikes:. JB
93 venture Posted November 17, 2008 #20 Posted November 17, 2008 I think these would work out for ya Brad.

PBJ Posted November 17, 2008 #23 Posted November 17, 2008 Hey Brad My recommendation is Hudson leathers. I bought my from them at the Americade 15 years ago and they wear like iron. If you buy them at Americade they measure you and cut the chaps to fit to make sure you get a pair that will be comfortable and last. The leather has gotten a little thinner but Hudson still sells some of the thickest leather chaps out there. Some are too thin and afford almost no protection. They come with steel or brass zippers (brass is recommended) and a belt sewn in with a buckle. Prices range from $99. to $140 but its money well spent. Just type in Hudson leathers and look at what they have. Every year when family or friends want a bargain in leather we take them to the Hudson tent.
