86 Front Forks help putting them on a 84

I just bought the forks I saw on here on ebay for 11$ plus 40$ shipping my ? is it easy to swap 86 forks to my 84 Venture Royale I heard it was an upgrade. Call if you have first hand Knowledge 772 260-5431 TOM

It's been done by a few members, and here's the deal. It's pretty much direct bolt on, but you have to switch rotors as they are a different kind. You need to install the newer brake calipers as well as your old ones won't fit, but that's pretty much the main reason to upgrade, for the beter brakes. If possible, switch master cylanders in both the front and rear as the bigger calipers use a little more volume of brake fluid, but your Mk1 masters wil work, but not 100% efficient. I would strongly suggest rebuilding the shocks first, and if you can afford it, install progresswive springs.

 

You may as well go all the way and upgrade the rear brake as well. You have to change the caliper holder, but it is poretty much bolt on. As far as the electric anti dive, it is triggered thru a relay by the brake light signal.

The 84's have an hydralic EAND anti dive valve actuated by brake fluid from the front brake calipers. The 86 has electric solenoids EAND Anti dive valve. I'm not sure if the 84 EAND valves will mate up with the 86 forks. If not, to change out you would need shorter banjoe bolts for the front calipers to allow you to eliminate the brake hoses that go to the hydralic valves on the 84 forks. Then you would need to wire the electric solenoids into the front brake light circuit to be actuated when front brakes are applied.

I did that with my 85.

 

First thing, caliper mounts are different so you need rotors from 86 up. (now, you can get yourself a nice set of R1 calipers that will fit too. My next upgrade personally)

Since the calipers are different, so are the rotors, so you'll need rotors from 86 up.

If you can find a set that has brake lines, then get them. you now have the electric anti dive units.

Now, you can wire them into the brake light harness if you want but I never could tell the difference with them on or off and after I dropped in a pair of progressive springs (truly this is a MUST do upgrade) I didn't find a reason to even have them wired.
